Hi, I\'ve wanted a rotary for ages and am going to look at a Cosmo tonight. its got about 60k miles on it. What should I look for so I don\'t buy something that\'ll need a rebuild straight away. Also anything specific to a Cosmo I should know or things I should ask regarding it (obviously) being an import.

Any help/advice much appreciated.

Cheers

What spec Cosmo is it - 13b or 20b will affect the value greatly.

Got any links to pics of it?

If you want to go the whole hog get it compression tested, although not the be all and end all of the engine condition it one major factor.

Is it for sale from a specialist or an ordinary garage.

What\'s the mileage - any history of a rebuild.

I\'m sure you\'ll get more advice during the day but this will get you started

Godd luck - great cars

John
I started with nothing and I have most of it left

Hi Ash.

I\'m not far from you, I live on Canvey, & the cars in Ilford. Going there for about 6 half six. Any help is welcome.

Hi John.

Thanks for your reply. I do like the look of yours, but wasn\'t looking at spending quite that much, (although I do think it looks the nuts & well worth the money.)
Its only a 13b but a late one and I think its SX spec level.
Its a private seller and he\'s only had it a couple of monts (says he\'s a petrol head and changes his cars reguarly) trouble is it\'s got no history or paperwork and @ 60k miles, seems pretty high mileage for a rotary ?

Any thoughts ?

Cheers

Hmmm

first thought would be that If he has no paperwork etc, he brought it and found the engine is stuffed... so is trying to dump it quick

johnf

I\'d be carefull, ppl who say they only buy cars for a couple of months [except Gurj] I have found are usually trying to move a lemon.

If he bought it from someone ing the UK ask for their phone number and give them a ring they won\'t have anything to hide, they\'ve already sold it.

It could just be the dreaded fuel costs that he\'s found unacceptable.

60k is not inherently high milage for a rotary, assuming they are well looked after then its not always a bad thing :)

Anyone who say he changes his car every couple of months is either a trader or is off loading a problem.
Just be careful, have a look and dont buy, maybe go back with someone
