when you say behind the speedo do you mean taking the cluster out of the housing etc?  i took mine off at the weekend to take an mph face of my mazdaspeed dials and took a good few pics, if you want i can post them up when i get home to hopefully point you in the right direction?

yeah that would be good!

it says.
No1: Cut the SIGNAL wire
No2: Connect the yellow wire from the speedo converter to the signal wire from the loom!
No3: Connect the Green wire from the speedo converter to the signal wire on the speedo head connector!
No4: Connect the RED to any 12V+
No5: Connect the Black To any 0V- (neg/Earth)

So im gathering i need to take the Speedo Head Counter out to fit it!

If you can put the pics up that woud be good!

right here ya go mate, hope the pics help you and if theres anything else, let me know ok?

first step is to take out the air vent cover on the drivers side. it just pulls out but be careful not to break the clips...

this is what you will be left with....

once that is off the next thing is to take the panel under the steering column off, there is 2 screws on the front, one to the left of the vent and one to the right of the bonnet release. there is a screw on the side, beside the air vent which is on a tab.

next, if you look up under the steering column there is 3 screws - 2 on the side and a machine screw in the middle, once these are out just pop the 2 parts apart, be very careful as the clips are fairly fragile lookin!! - sorry i didnt get pics of that tho.
youll see when you take the top panel off a small wire tapped thru the panel, thats the small led for you to see to put your key in, just screw it slightly and it will come right out

at this stage you can get the shroud out. i put my hands in behind the shroud from the side and from underneath, just pull gently but firmly, as there is 3 clips on the top of the dash and 1 on each side...

once the dash shroud is out, be careful as there is lots of wires in there and not a lot of slack, so be careful. the wires all have conncetors on the them so its easy to just press the 2 clips in on the sides of the connectors and pull out. the following pics are looking in fron the drivers window.

in this pic remove the first white connector on the left side of the pic, this goes to the light pop up switch i believe.

next unplug the black connector..

unplug the black connector in the centre..

and finally the black and white connectors shown..

the last thing to unplug is the cigarette lighter, which is 2 clips that just slide off. now the shroud and gauges are free to remove, just be careful and then you can take the shroud inside to take the cluster out.

to remove the cluster take the 2 screws on the tabs out at the bottom of the cluster and the same to the 2 screws at the top and pop the cluster out.

thats all the pics i managed to get at the child was pulling at my leg!!!
if your fitting a delimiter, you shouldnt need to take the plastic covers off the dials and can fit the delimiter.

really hope this helps!!!

Really good write up mate.  I think the mods should make this a sticky as it\'s probably the best explaination i\'ve ever seen to remove the dash.

I wish I had these type of instructions 10 years ago!! :D

Top job mate!

gibby250983

Top banana - saved me a lot of grief last night ;)

Just gotta hope now that I can put it back together again :D (it getting the right plugs into the right sockets thats im dubious about ;))

p.s. I echo the call to make this a sticky - took me long enough to find it, and I already knew this post existed :)
