Hey guys, I just thought I would ask this so that I can research and get ready for later mods in the future. I will be making my turbo a hybrid, mainly because the Hitachi T18 flange isn\'t that common, so it would make more sense to modify the compressor side of the turbo instead of changing the whole turbo and get a new manifold custom made.

I was just wondering what compressor housings would fit to the current OEM turbo like Prof has done on his, can anyone list which turbos as best suited for street driven RXs. The car is my daily drive car, but I will be taking it drag racing every now and then, so im thinking of a hybrid turbo that, with the supporting mods, be at around the 400bhp mark. So no, I don\'t need to get a GT60 lol :rollin

I was thinking of trying to find a Porsche VTG turbo, but I dunno if the VTG system would work on a rotary?

Here\'s one of the best places to look:

Basically a lot of the Garrett stuff will fix straight onto the shaft, and CHRA of the Hitachi unit.  It\'s not really a home make option, as you will need to get the turbo re balanced once you\'ve changed the compressor section.

I\'d also recommend getting 360 thrust bearings put in the CHRA, and all seals renewed - they pretty much have to do that anyways.

I\'m using a T04B compresser wheel with a 3" inlet diameter - which is another advantage to doing this mod.  This allowed me to keep the stock outlet pipe diameter, but you can go larger and front mount intercooler and have outlets of 2" or even 2.5".

Porting the wastegate as far as you can and allowing the flapper to open further by either shimming the rear housing of the turbo or grinding out some material from the backplate is a must or you will get silly boost creep and uncontrollable boost.

As an example, without porting and wastegate mods, the T04B flowed enough air to hit just over 12psi on spring boost only !  And was unusable with the boost controller.  Porting has dropped that to 7.5-8 psi on spring boost and I no longer have boost creep or spikes.

The stock intercooler will not take you beyond 12psi - and it will be maxed out at that pressure - whereas the turbo is good for 1 Bar or more with supporting mods.

Im after a stock turbine wheel (exhaust side) if either of you have a spare one.
Sorry for the hi jack.
I don\'t need to upgrade my stock turbo to beat your ass!

Get your finger out, get it on the road and start driving it then!!! (B.Martin 25/2/12)
