Urgent help alternator problems

Hi all,

My alternator is not charging my battery. I have had the casing powdercoated so i ground back where the tensioner is and earthed it from there. Is this ok for earthing the alternator? the plug connector is cliped in place and the large wire is bolted on tight so i think these parts are ok.
Any help appreciated.

if all the original cabling is connected if you want to check to see if the alternator is earthing well use a voltmeter continuity test touch one prob to the the alternator body and the other to the earth terminal on the battery. you can also do a resistance check this way to see whether you have a bad earth.
 
i take it you have actually checked at the battery when the car is running that it isnt charging ie volt check battery with engine not running around 12v then start the engine check the voltage again it should be around 14v then turn on your interior fan and put the headlights on and you should see very little drop under load. if the voltage drops down to 13v or so then the alternator has issues.

I had the same issue and in the end got a local alternator repair shop fix it. The casing is a grounding point for the board too. I need to swap cases over so I\'ll post some images of what they removed to get it going again.

Thanks for all the info Guys especially shaunwil.

Just stripped the alternator cleaned of the powder coating on all them places. Put it all back together and she is puring again.

12.4v engine not running.
14.5v engine running.
14.3v with lights & fan on.
