Hi guys,
Right, i\'ve just bought an FC, and have a few questions on these cars. I\'ve tried searching for some answers, but cant seem to find much.
Firstly, whats the 1/4 mile time, and 0-60 time for a standard 146bhp model NA? What diff do these have, i\'ve read somewhere that some models have an LSD, and some dont, but the years/models fitted with these seems to be different where ever i look!
And finally, has anyone on here fitted a turbo II engine in a NA? I think i\'m gonna want more power soon and i like doing engine conversions :mmmm .
I dont have a huge amount of experience with rotaries, beyond just service work so i was thinking of buying a knackered engine just to pull it apart and have a look inside!
Cheers guys,
James

Hi mate. Follow this link to the american site. You will need to register but there is 100 times more info than on here concerning the fc http://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=642372

If you do a search on here there is plenty of info for what you are looking for.
You can put a TII engine in an FC but its not worth it, better get a TII shell and work on that.  You will need the engine and loom, all the sensors and ECU etc, gearbox and prop plus a few more bits.  You can actually mod the EGI engine to produce BHP close to the TII but it depends on the age of your engine, budget and availability of spares.  Not quite sure about the internal loom as there will be wires to mess with there as well.  Its a lot of work to gain not a lot more and without spending a lot of money.
Just get a free flowing exhaust and decat, air intake and you\'ll be surprised what you can gain just by doing that.  The 0-60 is not a massive difference between the two anyway so it depends on what your end goal is (and obviously experience on knowing the rotary is a big must)
LSD were only on a few and I think just the turbos, \'Brett\' or \'Grinder\' will certainly give you this sort of info.
As for pulling the engine apart then if its knackered then this is the best way, its what I did and it was the best thing I ever did, given me the confidence to do a rebuild.  I am an aircraft engineer anyway so all the specialist tools are easy to hand.  You will need a huge socket for the flywheel 54mm I think but the rest can be done using basic tools.  Rebuilds are different and you really need to know what you are doing otherwise you will pour a lot of money down the drain if you get it wrong.  Anyway enjoy your car, you will have loads of fun even as it is.

Yeah, it seems a really nice motor, and ideally i\'d have bought a turbo, but this was offered to me so cheap i just couldn\'t say no. I\'m a mechanic, and i\'ve rebuilt several engines, but the rotary will be a new one to me! I definitely would prefer turbo power, but if thats the case what i\'ll probably do is drive this one for a while, and maybe sell it and replace it with a turbo II if i decide i like it! It really is surprisingly clean too. Do you guys have many meetings? If not then there must be a few of you guys around essex/suffolk area and we\'ll have to arrange one!

All the info you need is on this forum, there is a buyers guide here:-

Cheers Brett. I\'ve looked over the car, and it seems pretty good. Certainly cant complain for the price i\'ve been offered it anyway! Is there a particular company you guys use for aftermarket parts?

Brett

Ebay is your friend for most parts, use ebay.com and australia, but you can try our advertisers too, depends on what you are after :)
