heat light on dash flickering

sometimes when cornering hard or accelerating hard my little heat light comes on (the 1 next to abs light) and flickers maybe a few seconds then goes off. I dont think the car is overheating, my temp guage (stock one on dash) reads fine, my coolent levels are all good an my water temp on pfc reads the usual (around 85-90)

Im guessing a faulty sensor but was wondering if anyone knew where this sensor might be if they have had problems like this before?

Thanks

Its next to or attached to the midpipe me think...worth having a look.

HI do you have an apexi ecu? if so the heat light acts as a sensor warning light, mine flickers now and again check the commander and see if any sensors are out of range..

Just a thought

Its probably knock, check your knock levels on the commander.

I could be incorrect but is that sernsor to do with the temp of your cat?

I do have a apexi pfc so that may explain it. Im no expert on knock levels but mine seems to be ok, i.e. not knocking to bad (from what i can tell from the unhelpful litle bar)

I dont have a cat and havent done since owning the car.

Power FC uses the CAT heat light as a warning light for excessive knock level (over 50 i think, although you can change this with a dataloggit) and also to warn of excessive injection duty (somewhere around 95%)

Eddie

I thought the light was just to tell you a sensor was out of range, any sensor. next time you get it go to the sensor setting before switching of the car and you should see a dark block around the sensor in question.

Mine is usually the Oil metering pump.

What do you mean by that exactly?

I will check out the knock levels, but unfortunatly, havent got a rmagic holder, so had the commander stuck on dash with the crap lil velcro strips, which inevitbley came off while having fun on some bumpy country lanes, so its now mounted face down in the glove box lol.

is it normal for it to knock more on corners? obviously it might do a little more on hard acceleration.

Yep, it could be injector duty hitting 100% too. Switch on the peak hold on the Commander and you will see if any of the values peak when you see the lights flash. The best bit is, you don\'t have to have that particular reading on screen at the time, the peak hold will capture it and then you can go to the menu and add each sensor in turn until you see the offending reading.

It\'s probably a dodgy knock reading from a dodgy sensor...people get weird 110% values when it goes wrong.

I thought my knock sensor was faulty, but replaced it and still getting exact same readings, so not that on mine. fresh fuel helped it but only slightly, after long lack of use. but then i do need to get mine mapped!

I will add here that my pfc is currently running the stock base map to as im awaiting a mapping session at WGT.

Knock and Injection Duty are visible through the heat light when it blinks 3 times as it occurs.. flickering in no particular pattern could be a sensor problem.

You can see on the sensor screen which sensor is playing up as it flahsed because it will have a black circle, or highlighted in black.

In my experience it has been the Oil metering pump, and the cat temperature sensor playing up...

If you have no cat, you can remove the cat sensor you may need a resistor in the wire.. cant remember exactly how to do this.. :)

mine was shorting out and causing the flicker.. so i  removed it...

i also had this problem at time of engine rebuild. It was down to a set of dodgy coil packs in the end and not a dodgy sencer as first thought :Nono!
