haywire water temp

yesterday i had a odd experince my water temp gauge hit the roof but no red light was just all over the shop frist hight then low all sorts when i was driving it was level and my fc read out was 81 and never moved :confused:
on the phone to jono asap ( cheers mate ) recons a dodgy connection where would i look for this connection guys?

If you\'re talking the one for the dash gauge, it down below the oil filter. Just besides and slightly below the oil pressure sender.
