Hi Norton, that pink bike was in a mag a year or so ago.
Do you think the guy that owns it would bring it along?
How many do you think could come?
Kind regards, Carl
GOOD NEWS, Ive just heard from Geoff, the owner of the pink and white \'Speed-Trochoid\' Special, hes a \'definite\' for Rotorstock.
Also, one other is a \'probable\'. :)

Well, ive got some times now. Having never done drag racing before i took my 20 year old Norton rotary to The Speedfreaks ball at Santa Pod this weekend and did eight runs down the strip. The 85bhp police bike i have was tested in 1982 at 13.5 seconds for the quarter mile and mine has a bog standard engine, carbs and air filter but i figure that the free flowing exhaust ive had added to it should have pushed power up to about 90bhp and mine should be a bit lighter than the origional 260 kilos. Only problem is that my tacho doesnt work so i have to try to guess when its getting close to the limiter. So, here are the results...
Run 1- 13.660 / Run 2- 13.136 / Run 3- 13.341 / Run 4- 13.028 / Run 5- 13.039 / Run 6- 13.492 / Run 7- 13.001 aaaarrrrggghhhh!! so close!.../ Run 8- 12.963 YES! into the 12\'s. :D T.S. 105 mph.
The one eighth of a mile time was 8.36 seconds at 86 mph.

Brilliant!
It is much harder than it looks eh?
Did you enjoy it?

Nice pic by the way.

I hope you did and some more Nortons rotaries come to rotorstock too.
Kind regards
Carl

Of course, Geoffs bike should be quite a bit quicker than mine with 130 bhp on tap!! especially over the second eighth of a mile section were i expect to get left behind.

Carl

The fire breather eh?
Looks like alot of fun.
I remember the write up in the mag about Geoffs bike, other bikers did not want to get too close!
Kind regards
Carl

It should be even better if hes finished building his new racetrack only exhaust which will dispense with the \'silencer\' box under the engine! should get some good flames then!

12.96 quarter, slow by todays standards but hey, ive just been looking at a book on old \'superbikes\', turns out my old 588cc Norton would have beat none other than the legendary Laverda Jota 1000 (which was in production at the same time) and which would have \'only\' managed a 13.05.

We were really impressed with how friendly and welcoming you RX owners were, thanks for a great day. On our last run of the day we both posted our best ever times of... me 12.431 at 109.63 and Geoff (having finally persuaded it to run on both rotors) 11.972 at 117.12   Two happy chappies! :D :D

We werea t the gate changing Max\'s rims when you (the black one?) left; lovely noise as you turned out left and \'pootled\' :D off up the road! Great to see the bikes side by side up the strip :)

they did sound awesome although in addition to my left ear http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008\' target=\'_blank\'>http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/12/12_6_12.gif\' border=0> being sunburnt it\'s also a bit deaf after walking behind you while you were tweaking :god lol actually dont worry i blame OJ for going there\'s no point covering your ears when the jet car goes by it\'s the noise that\'s great.
Si (need to borrow sum serious ICE now to listen to radio lol)

Hee, Hee... Thanks guys
It was the first time i had heard Geoffs bike on the straight through pipe, he has only just made it. It was ever so slightly loud wasnt it? I thought mine was loud but i couldnt hear it next to Geoffs. Lovely sound though, not unlike the works racers. :)
