See now the local car parts place has the RX7 FD as requiring 5.4 litres.  But at the same time their book recommended GTX Magnatec - ie Synthetic!!    So i\'m not taking that 5.4 litres as gospel either!!

I\'ve just filled it up with the 4litre drum I had - checked the dipstick and it is over "Full"    ???     I\'ll give it a while to sink through in case its just on its way down.  Bit worried I may have over filled her now

Never managed to get 5 litres in! Even with a filter. If you\'re is a little high and you\'ve changed the filter than take out the egi fuse and turn it over to fill up the filter and it should drop a bit as well...

...Otherwise it\'s the messy job of dropping a wee bit of oil out! Never easy ;)

Think you will find including replacing the filter you use just about 4.5ltrs per change

Put in 3.5 to begin with then check the dip stick and top up till full :Party

The 5.4l is probably the whole system. The oil coolers hold over 1lt of oil.

if you only change the filter and drain the sump it normally takes exactly 4 litres of oil. if its a rebiult engine its about 5 for the first ever fill up providing the oil coolers were not emptied.
There are performance cars and then there is the RX-7...........
