Hi Guys,

I started my car today as its been sat around for a week and normally when I start it after a few days I always hear a whining sound from the fuel pressure building up in the fuel lines (I have a BNR33 pump). This normally goes away, but today it kept whining at idle. So I opened the bonnet and the whining was come from the FSE fuel pressure regulator, I touched one of the pipes that goes into the engine block from the regulator and it was vibrating a lot and felt like it had pressure in it. However when I squeezed the pipe a bit the whining became louder. Anyway I took it for a spin and when driving you can never hear the whining sound, only on idle or very low revs. It seems like the sound is coming directly from the regulator.

Can anyone suggest what this could be? Is it risky to drive the car, it drives perfectly fine?  I bought the regulator new from REWorx at the time I got it mapped (Jan 2007)

Hi Mate,

I think I had a similar thing last weekend.

Hadn\'t driven the car for 3 weeks and on idle or low revs it was making a funny noise a bit like a loose belt but for some reason I reckoned it was coming from the fuel regulator ...... thing with a dial on it ? .... anyway after about 20 minutes driving especially when I blatted it a bit ...... forcing a higher degree of fuel through the system it went away.

yeah thats what mine sounds like, a loose belt but it was coming from the fuel regulator.... you think giving it a good blat would clear it up?

As I was coming out of London I was driving for a good half hour before giving it any welly.

I think the sound had gone before I pushed it.

There were no indications of fuel shortage ie the engine sounded smooth on acceleration and no backfiring so I guess it is ok.
