The air-con in newly acquired FD does not blow cold - how can I tell what gas I should recharge it with? I have seen a number of posts where its been said that there is a sticker under the bonnet which specifies the gas to use (R12 or R134a)- unfortunately I can\'t see such a sticker on mine! can anyone tell me if there\'s another way to find out?

You\'re not allowed to use r12 any more and have to use r134a... However sometimes the nossles are different for filling, hence they need to be converted from r12 to r134a.

But unless the system had drained (like mine had) then an air-con dude will be able to drain the system out either way and fill it up with the right stuff.

I\'d heard that R413a (ISCEON 49) was a direct replacement for R12 and i\'ve seen kits on the web for this, but I also heard that the air-con in rx-7s was changed at somepoint in 93 to R134a so I need to get the correct gas as I thought i\'d save some cash and do the recharge myself

Ah, well don\'t know then... But the guy charged me £40 and came to my house to do it as well, so I\'d go for that rather than gassing myself ;)

There should be a sticker on the bonnet that tells you which it is to fill up !

Mine is an August 93 FD imported from Japan and it had R13a air-con stuff in it.

I literally had a bit of a phone around from the Yellow Pages and got the one who sounded like they knew what they were talking about :D

There\'s loads of them about and Bedford\'s pretty far from Essex for £40! But I\'d imagine that\'s the going rate, so shouldn\'t be too much bother. They\'ll just need access to a power point if they need to drain out the old stuff.

But mine is blowing really cold now! Excellent stuff! Except the drain hose had been disconnected somehow and so a load of water drained onto the mats, d\'oh!

In the end I went with Paul from Kool Air Systems, he seemed to know his stuff, did a pressure test, sucked out everything that was left and refillled with R413a as the system was set up for the old gas - although he put slightly too much gas in at first (~800g) and the compressor got angry but he brought it down to about 600g and now the system is nice and icy. I would definitely recommend him - he was very thorough (the whole service took about an hour) and cost me £85 which wasn\'t unreasonable .
