Well after years of umming and arrring I finally did a track day on friday evening in my FD and it was excellent. Went with Circuit Days at Snetterton mainly because I wasn\'t sure of my exhaust noise limit and Snetterton is 105db and because it\'s a fairly safe novice circuit. They tested me at 6500rpm and I\'m only producing 93db!!

After lining up with a race prep Marcos, a brand new Porsche GT3, a Aston Martin Vanquish, 2 Atoms, 2 Caterhams and a TVR Sagaris I was a bit apprehensive but after 3 laps I was suddenly Damon Hill chasing Schumi down the Revett straight! Mightily impressed with the car, I could really feel how balanced it is and even a bit of oversteer is easily corrected. The brakes are good although I only have a standard setup so suffered a bit of brake fade after later on in the evening.

If you\'re thinking of doing a track day, do it. If you\'re sensible, go easy on the brakes and pit every 6 or 7 laps it shouldn\'t cost a bomb and it\'s a great way to drive your car how the designers intended.

I\'m looking at doing Bedford next:burnout

watch yourself at Bedford. I went there and tested at 96.5 on the gate, but got black-flagged on the first corner for 1db over on the driveby mikes that are all over the bloody place

That\'s harsh:(

Did they test you at 6500 rpm?

no, 4500 at half a metre, standing still. But thats at the gate....take it easiy for the first few laps and you\'ll see the mikes on poles, about a meter high, there are 4 or 5. You get one black flag, they tell you its about noise, next time you go home.

i half throttle most of the day then when i knew where they were, just lifted past them.

Hi JohnnyP -- glad you liked your first track day. I did my first at Brands Hatch in May, and thorougly enjoyed it. We\'re planning another on 27th June (all-day this time), and can obtain a 10% discount (if we can get 10 bookings) on the cost + MRC have offered a further £20 for full members :-)
