How many miles have you done on this engine ? ... could be the 1st sign of compression problems

Hi Mate,

kind of a normal problem on these. Can one of a few things though. can depend on state of your spark plugs but i fthey are ok most likely to be a case of the ecu causing flooding. when hot don\'t start it with any accelerator at all or start with your foot to the floor on the accelerator pedal to disable fuel injection and this should help. Other wise I believe rotechniks and and a few other rx7 garages sell a manual fuel cut device to help with this issue.

Do you still have the cat?  if so it may be dead, when mine was the car would start fine cold, but when warm would just die - you had to turn the key and just as it caught blip the throttle and it would start fine.

I\'m getting the same thing! It will start perfect when its cold, as soon as it heats up its a problem, i have to turn it over in gear a little so the car moves a few inches and then it fires up fine!????

Then other times it will start perfectly when hot?????

I thought it could be plugs, although when it runs, its perfect???

Do you think it could be the cat then robbie?

Your problem will most likely be a combination of the following;

1) The injectors on 2nd gen\'s tend to leak for a few seconds after turning off the engine, this results in a build up of fuel- then over fueling when the car starts (Flooding).
2) Poor compression, unless your engines been rebuilt or you have less than 70-80k on the clock then you are looking at housing, end wall and seal wear.  If this is the case then there is no way out other than a rebuild Im afraid.

Advice-  To start from warm, open bonnet and remove fuse cover from near head lamp. Remove the egi fuse.  Turn the engine over for 5-20 secs. reinsert fuse, shut bonnet.  This should have forced any excess fuel from the chambers allowing you to start the car.

 Good luck.
