Hey guys well after being pointed over here by ramirez thought Id post the pics etc of mine and my brothers RX7 project.

basically we bought the car with the possible olong term plan of doing it up as best we could, then maybe taking it to the nurburg ring.

This plan could fail at a number of different places along the way but its more about learning for myself and rebuilding a car.

Well I\'ll let you in on the pics.

TBH this probably wont even make it to the ring, but me and the brother were looking for a car to work on, do up and have a bit of fun in, if we decide to take it to the ring then great if not it will be fun doing it up anyway.

First of all, this is a crash damaged RX7 however the damage is mainly superficial, the previous owner spun the back end out and hit a fence (I think) damaging the driverside wing / bumper / headlight. He bought replacement parts but never got round to fixing it up, therefore it has stood in a compiund for 6 months.

My brother went to see it first looked ok and more importantly started after some gentle persuasion. We went to pick it up at the weekend and got it home to the garage to begin the work needed to make it road worthy again.
anyway pics below.

front end pic showing the driverside damage.

Rear View, few scratches here and there, needs new rear spoiler

Interior Pic, needs a good clean but overall not too bad.

Engine bay pic, Pipercross Induction kit fitted (pre our purchase)

Pic of front end after a bit of work and replacing the broken light.

Overall were happy with the purchase, there are extras which you cant really see in the pic such as it having a complete Janspeed twin exhaust system.

The model is a 2*2, I think it is the newer 13B engine which kicks out about 160BHP (but i could and probably am wrong :)), we may look to see if we can source a Turbo for it but thats a fair way down the line yet.

Main jobs to start are to fit the front bumper, sort some of the electrics as the Lights do not pop up as yet, remove some of the dents in the bodywork, fit a rear spoiler, service the car, clean and tidy and then eventually some new 17inch alloys and a respray.

So a fair lot of work to do but the car does run and also comes with a spare sub 30k mile rotary engine.

Overall a lot of work to do, but were over the moon in a way as it is just the type of project we were looking for, we may / may not take it to the ring due to reliability issues, but hell it\'ll be fun doing it up regardless.

well the pics etc above were about 2weeks ago and since then we have begun doing a bit of the work,

well a few updated pics on progress so far, been a tad on the slow side in some aspects but quick in others.

The engine now starts first time pretty much everytime. needs a good run out but no chance of that till Tax tested and insured, seems to miss occasionally when revving up and down but fine when revving hard.

we have now got the light on and lined up correctly so bonnet closes etc and lies flat, only problem with these is we were unable to get them to pop up and down as they should, on investigation it would appear to be the dash switch. if we bridge the connection to the dash from live to up and down everything works as it should, however when the two plugs are connected then they simply dont work.

Based on this and the lack of parts we have decided to wire in a three way switch under the dash for the purpose of popping up and down the lights which seems to have alleviated the problem.

The bumper has been fitted however we need indicators for the front and the sides.

Interiror wise nothing has been done however we are considering ripping out the seats and replacing with bucket seats, as well as removeing the rear seats as TBh theres no chance anyonw could fit in them anyway. Dents etc have been removed as best we could and we have debadged the rear, a new spoiler is en route which when fitted will tidy up the back end.

anyway a few quickly taken pics.

Anyway will keep updated with progress.

the lights shouldnt be a big issue - you have to make sure that the relays on the front bar are getting 12v and that the switch on the inside is

what year is the car ( E , F reg etc.. )

Its an F Reg mate.

its literally the two plugs from the switch on the right hand side of the dash.

when plugged to gether and using the twist for up and down theres nothing, not even a hint of movement, however with the plugs a part a bit of wire between the live and the up / down and the lights pretty much go up and down.

without a new switch were a bit perplexed ?

EDIt: Oh and for the compression although now having read the compression sticky im not 100% sure we did this right as we didnt turn off the non return valve, but using a compression meter we were getting about 5.5 ? reading the haynes manual that seems to be ok, however having read the compression guide now Im not to sure ?

humm sounds like

1 - bad switch
2 - wrong switch for the car

i have been having loads of issues with mine to be honest - finally fixed it by running new power feeds to the switch and getting the correct switches

if you look in the 2nd gen section under "headlights wont work" there is a big thread about it

nice to see another FC living to fight another day though :D

Re compression, you should get 3 reading on each rotor (one of each rotor face) they should all be similar (if one is dramatically different it could imply apex seal damage) and mid 5s is OK not brilliant but not drastically low either.
