Idling

Can anyone point out where i should be listening with my hose?  My car is idling high at times - bout 1200 rpm then usally drops down to normal after leaving it for 30 secs, occasionally jumps up and down slightly.

A couple of us have had a listen and no sucking noise is obvious - could this be the cold start thingy playing up?
