take it you add it to petrol, and no never seen it before

I use one by Lucas (Red bottle). Yes it does seem to help (& more fuel to cool as I understand).
The idea is that you aim to get as close to the octane level of Japanese fuel, 102 ron.
Big mine field on petrol here......most supermarkets I am advised never to use as they have harmfull additives; Shell do a good higher octane (supposedly closer to 99ron than stated 97ron) but no shells here so I generally use Esso & sometimes Texaco. Higher octane petrol is I find is always stated as 97ron.
Some shell garages I am told even do a 102ron but aparently it is twice the price!
Why use a higher ron? Well if you use say a normal unleaded your engine will drink more thinking it is underfueled & is likely to clog up your injectors (not good).

When choosing an octane boost be carefull (as you already seem to be) as there are issues:
Some motorsport octane boosts are for use ONLY without a cat (usually higher performance ones not neccessary on stock or light mods) as they will foul a cat.
Some are classed not for road use (as is mine) here ther seems to be two warnings:
1. If you use it, try not to do it at your local station.
2. Check to see if they have added lubricants.

Some racing octane boosts are too much; mine is a little higher rated but ok in stock (used with cat before it was removed) plus it has lubricants to help.

Always check the bottle for such details & also for amount needed. My previous octane boost was fine at £10 a bottle & I got two tank fills out of 500ml. The lucas one I switched to is better but is £11 a bottle...however I get 3 tank fills from a bottle. I am also told you can do it every other fill rather than neccessary each fill (full tank).
Helps keep the engine happy if not overdosed (concentrate wise).

Well thats about it without going down to my garage & getting the makes (both I got through motorsport garages not shops so cannot advise web wise).

Hope this helps.

thanks for the info my engine should be up and going within the mth i hope and wasant sure to add it to a fresh engine with new injectors?

The octane level doesn\'t actually do anything in itself performance wise, it just helps to lower the knock level. Then you can tune the car to a higher boost before things go pop. I\'d like to know what some of the clever rotary people say about octance booster as I\'ve heard varying advice on whether it should be used, or if it actually does what it says on the tin?
