Hi, I am in the market for a nice 3rd Gen RX7, just wanted to know, if all are Twin turbo\'s or is there N/a versions?, how can you tell from looking at the engine?

Also apart from doing a compression test, is there any other way of checking around the engine bay, to see if it\'s had a rebuild.
Finally do RX7\'s come in 6Speed or all of the manuals 5Speed, and what is 2+2.
I have done a quick search but cant seem to find a definate answer. Sorry I\'m asking so many questions, but would really like to know what I\'m going out there for.

Thanks

welcome mate,

3rd gens are all turbos (some single turbos - but all born as twins as mazda only did them) all 5speed manuals and a comp test is the only accurate and crucial way of checking the health of one and i would never consider buying without having one done (saying that i did).

you can check for the usual things such as smoke trouble starting cold or hot.

try searching for champagne test and maybe do that but the best indicator is a comp test as many buy without and regret later.

good luck with it and i would definatley recomend looking at the for sale section here as there are always superb cars at amazing prices!

Some very well known by the community and tuners alike.

all the best.

You may want to have a look in this section http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=40
Alot of these questions are asked there and have quite indepth replys.

The FD came as a Twin Turbo only, there are lots of Customized cars out there with Single Turbos and maybe even been converted to NA but if your looking at a more stock car it will be Seq Twin Turbo (auto or 5 Speed Manual)

Rebuilds are something that you need writen Proof, some people can spot if a Car has been rebuilt by Looking at it but to the mear Mortal you want to see Lots of paper work (also check the Engine number on the paper work matches the one in the car) A rebuild is a big selling point and it has been known for people to sell cars saying it has had a rebuild in Japan when even they can\'t proove it, so if it don\'t have proof take it as possably needing a rebuild (engine Compression over 7bar is a good sign it has been rebuilt too ;))

2+2 is ther seat layout. Alot prefer the 2 seater set up becouse the rear seats in an FD are not realy usable (unless you have very small legs and are 4 foot tall)
