Iv,e got a guy that can weld, and the flanges from an old cat pipe, how do i make my own? any one done this? i need to know what is inside these silenced mid-pipes, is it wadding, fibre glass, steel wool. holes, peanuts! in others words what exactly is it that quietens a rotary down enough not to upset the locals?

If you pickup a catlogue for Demon Tweeks (red motorsport catalogue) you will find they sell all the parts required to make up your own silencers, including wadding, perforated inner pipe, etc.

The wadding required will be good quality stainless wool as a Rotary will burn out normal Fiber wadding pronto.

Stainless steel pot scouring (spelling?! ... pot scrubbing thingies) and high temp rockwool insulation seems to be the norm in other parts of the world.

There is a realy interesting thread on making silencers on Ausrotary ... they really are quite simple to make but it\'s the trial and error that takes time to develop somthing that works really well and is optomised that costs the money.

Anyway ... have a read. I guess a silenced mid pipe is going to be pretty much straight through with no bends and not quite as much sound absorbing material as a main silencer.
