Hi all,

As some of you may remember I said a couple of weekends ago my car started on 1 rotor, then after a minute it started to work on both...

Again, this happened last night, but then it was 100% when I drove down to Brugge so that seemed to be OK... But then it was in an underground car park most of the time, so I don\'t know if by staying dry it helped?

But I\'m also thinking it\'s getting richer, and now when I turn off I hear a small pop from the exhaust, like a tiny iccle backfire, so I\'m thinking unburnt fuel in the exhaust... Now I\'ve got a new stock air filter to put in, but I\'d have thought it has a MAP sensor right? So even it the car could hardly breath, it wouldn\'t run rich, it\'d just have sod all power? Am I right in making this assumption?

It runs fine when warm and starts again on the button...

What else could cause it? O2 Sensor? TPS?

TIA!
Mark

Literally just done that before heading to Brugge... So done very few miles!

It could be low compression.
Best to get it tested to eliminate that and then go from there.

Could well be, but I did read that it would also struggle starting when warm? Is that right?

Once it\'s warm it\'ll start straight away with no problems at all.

Also been keeping an eye on the coolant level and it\'s fine, no loss so it doesn\'t seem to be wet plugs from a busted seal either...

Where\'s the nearest place in Essex to get a compression check done? I\'d imagine with the RX8 being about that more Mazda dealers would have the kit right?

If it starts well when hot then maybe you are right.Check the plug leads too.
Is it on a stock ecu?

It\'s a stock ECU but I think it\'s either been played with a bit inside or has a piggy back somewhere, looks like small box on the outside. It\'s also got a "extra" switch in the console with a wire leading there... I\'ve not pressed this switch (could be the ejector seat!) ;)

I\'ll check the leads... Do you think OEM or Magnecor? I\'m never going to be heading for monster power, just get it hendling well.

Also, how are the coil packs on these? IIRC coil packs normally break down when they get hot, rather than cold right?

Thanks Carl!

I personally do not like the Magnecor plug leads, but others differ on this.
The OEM leads are very good, even for quite a few extra horses.
You are right about the coils.

Looks like I\'ll grab some OEM leads and try that out, at least it sounds like the coil packs are OK!

Saying that, today it\'s been running 100% again... I\'ll give everything a clean up tomorrow and maybe do a coolant change ready for winter while I wait to get the leads :)
