I\'ve replaced the air temps sensor from the plenum to Greddy elbow just after me WI and can report that its the best little mods you can do and the rewards are just topssss.  I was out last night, although the weather was cold but still the intake air temps never went above 28 in traffic and 11 when cruising :Giggle where, as before in similar situation, it was round above 40.

The sensor being under the plenum stays hot soon as the engine temps go high and takes time to come down but in a new position it comes down in temps quicker.

Now my question to all is why the hell car seems to drink more petrol when running cold intake temps???:Hammer

All down to the mapping my good friend.

Nice little mod, have you mapped for the move? The ECU will see lower temps, which genericlly means denser charge, hence more fuel to meet the AFRs set.

Did you try shielding the sensor before moving to the elbow? would be interested in the figure differencial there, as that would be my starting point.

Martiny

Surely, the closer you are to inlet port, the more accurate it will be, and therefore more accurate for the map to inject the correct fuel?

Thats what i thought so have only moved it where the elbow bolts on the plenum....the car is fully mapped so asume its ok for the intake temps to be lower and more fuel going in.  I does feel better when given a bit woooof.  gonna do more check tomorrow, if the weather permits..:Thumbsup!

Ah Ok, I thought you had moved it near the air filter or something !

This has been on my list for ages.

Did you use an aftermarket sensor or relocate the OE one?

Laeeq

yep used the OEM but used the after markeet one from john i bought in standard position...and can switch inbetween when ever i wanted...:Thumbsup!

Top idea!

I\'ll have to see if he has any left.

Any reason you didnt put the aftermarket one in the elbow and leave the stock one in position?

Fish

I would recommend getting the map checked. You might now be running over rich in parts of the map.

More than likely if running the same map as when the sensor was in the stock position, which is what I thought Martiny was saying about moving to the elbow (seems he thought you\'d gone further).

The sensor may be out of the fire (so to speak) but the UIM (and the charge within it) is not so you will have the ECU seeing a slightly cooler charge than the engine see\'s after passing through the UIM.

But, did you say you\'re running the Ellwood/Triumph sensor in stock location aswell? What is the variation in the readings at both points? have you logged any runs with both?

yesterday, i did few runs before it started to rain:Grrr

I think that i will use the Triumph sensor in the winter as its under the plenum with temps at reasonable colder side and it reacts quicker but will use OEM sensor in the summer with lower temps.

Ok, see the difference in between both sensors are that the triumph one reacts very very quick; temps up or down e.g if im on full boost with the WI kicked in, it will drop the intake temps very quick but soon as you are off boost and cruising again the intake temps do start to go up again very quickly.

The OEM sensor in that sense is very good, although it reacts a bit slower when bringing the intake temps down/colder but once its colder it holds it there for few minutes before starting to go up again....not sure if im making any sense here but i believe its better to have the temps rising slowly up if you need to keep putting your foot down or use full boost as there is more fuel going in at good temps....

Oh, and yes they both heatsoack if stationary in traffic but the only advatage of Triumph is it will come down in tepms quicker soon as you are on the move and thats why i will use OEM in the summer as its outside the plenum and will bring temps down quicker in that position and in winter i will use the the other....oh thats if i still have the motor by then:driving

The Triumph one does sound as though it reacts with alot more Gusto than the OEM, and is going to be a big benefit when you\'re looking for accurate readings.

Have you logged figures from them both at the same time though?(both OEM or both Ellwood) so you know how much difference is affected on the charge between the elbow and the sensor point in the UIM?

The only way i have been logging figures are; on the commander as it shows air tepms....:2Confused

Aaahhhh Poooh!!!! Thats one to add to the test list, where did you get the Ellwood sensor from in the end?
