mine could sit up for a couples of weeks at a time, i drive a skyline to work so always try take the FD out once a week

Sy.

Do you have to prepare the car with anything when leaving it over the winter ??? oil change or drain oil .. does things seze up ?

Mine is a daily driver but was thinking of a small run around for the winter .

i thought the rotary lumps suffered with the tips sticking to the walls or marking the walls that causes wear? and they are ment to be run up quite often?

Cally

/me hopes not. Mines has been sat for 2 weeks as it hasnt stopped raining for a single day and was even snowing!!!

Quote from: GrizzlyOk, I have an Fd on the drive thats been stood for the best part of a year (its a mates and is half Converted to single Turbo before he had a cash flow problem)

My question is should i pull the Plugs out and oil it up then Turn it over by hand every so often? or does it not realy matter?

I would hate for it too develope a Sticking Apex/Side seal and end up needing a rebuild??
If I have a motor just sat up,....I normally just hand turn it once a week or so,give it some oil now and again.......have had a motor sat for a year like that, installed it,flushed out the oil,and it fired almost at once..:)

i drive my fd around 100 miles a week (2 long ish journeys and some shorter blasts) all year.  tbh i get annoyed when people say you shouldn\'t drive the car in the winter. yes the roads are wet and no we don\'t have traction control, but with some sensible driving and decent tyres, there is no reason why it should crash itself!  i have had a couple of dodgy moments when the back end has gone a bit mental but that was because i hit the second turbo coming off roundabouts.  all down to driver error!

respect the car and it will respect you...

Keep a bit of ATF in the housings, and rotate by hand every week or so. If you leave the engine standing with no movement, the apex seal springs can lose their tensile strength causing early rebuild time. This has happened to me whilst on deployment(6months), and the engine popped on the dyno just before RS2.
The ATF will soften the carbon build up, and clean the rotors/housings. Just make sure that when the engine is started, you are in a well ventilated \'street\' and you will need to replace the plugs. Do several full rpm runs, until there is no more smoke being produced.

Cheers,
John

I better take mine out a run after work tommorrow then before it hits the 2 week mark!

Ok, as always the case i\'ve had a mess with the car tonight and thought i had some ATF but haven\'t, I\'ve put a Bit of 2 Stroke oil in (i thought its designed to burn anyway??) I just did\'nt want to try the motor over to much Dry.

There was a healthy amount of Compression so i feel abit better. I\'ll do it again next week but i\'ll get some ATF in the mean time. Which brings me to another question, I\'m only using about a tea spoon of oil per bath should i only do the oil bit once a Month or some thing like that becouse i\'m a little worried that after a few months i may fill the Engine full of oil :)

Grizzly

Also while i\'m thinking about it, I Watched the Video about decarboning seals (its posted in another thread) could i do a simalar thing to turn this motor over (Plug it into an Air line) thats if i sorted a means of oiling the Apex\'s etc as it turned?
