Car was fine yesterday when I garaged it; then when I pulled it out of the garage an hour ago big problem. First it wouldn\'t go into gear, then finally clunked it into reverse pulled it out & then a big shrieking squeel!

1. It goes into gear if engine not running, but when running attempts meet with a squeel & not going into any gear.
2. Putting it into gear & starting up produces a squeel to avenge all banshies (like metal on metal).

A friend tells me it is nothing to do with the hydraulics, & most likely not the gear box. He reccons that the bearing has gone through the clutch plate.

BUT

The clutch has never slipped.
Replaced inners of master cylinder 2 weeks ago as clutch was sticking & not comming up.
Did not bleed clutch line properly (filled cylinder & reconnected metal pipe) as first could not locate & then told leave it as working fine (same friend).

Question is: gearbox? Clutch? or air lock?
Running 300bhp on a 1993 type R (with intent to tune) - should I uprate clutch & flywheel if needs replacing?
If so, as it cannot move, any reason not to attempt to jack up with caution & replace?

Any help greatly apreaciated as intended to go to Japshow this weekend.

I think whats happened, is the spigot shaft bearing has failed ( also called the pilot bearing).

What happens if you start it in gear with the clutch down? (Make sure there is nothing / no-one in front of the car first ! )

Does your Slave Cylinder move ok? i had a simalar problem when i put a Braided Hose on the Clutch and forgot to Bleed it up. You may have a Dodgy seal in one of the Cylinders causing the Hydrolics not to work Properly (worth a Look)
