Hi All
Right ive still got a coolant leak on my FD. Had it all apart agin on friday. Replaced the gasget on the thermosat and on the front of the water pump fine. Now I went out to day to find its still leaking. The water seams to be coming from the back of the water pump. Ive been searching around trying to find a how to for removing the whole waterpump accembly with out much succes.

So if anyone who knows of a link, preferanly with lots of pics or if they have removed the water pump them selves and could let me know how its done that would be great.

Thanks All

Niall

ever considered that it might be the water pump leaking? there is a hole on the pump that leaks when pump is gone it is behind the pulley and gives the impression that it is the gasket
A small turbo

If you can wait a couple of nights iv just done this so im going to be doing a "How To" once iv finished replacing everything...is it the whole pump housing or just the water pump you wana change?

Hi All
Im not entirely sure where the water is coming from. Gonna put some red food dye in tomorrow and try pressure testing the system. Im looking to take take the whole pump housing apart so that i can check everything . Ive had it apart up to the water pump and thermostat but wasent sure how the actual pump comes off. Im gonna crack on with it tomorrow and see how I get on.

A how to on removing the water pump would be very useful Roxio . Have searched throught all the usual sites for walk throughs and turned a blank.

Thanks

it sits on four long studs from the front cover and then two large bolts going through the alternator if i remember rightly. there is also an o-ring inside it somewhere which you can replace, have a look on rotaryart and you will see an exploded view of it showing the gaskets, maybe one of the sensors on the back is leaking?

Yeh you\'l need 2 gaskets. 1 for the water pump and 1 for the housing. If your not 100% compatant (sp) with a spanner then you may want to get a mechanic to do it. Its pretty tedious getting the housing off. Lots of bits attach to it and they have to come off first!

I take it you got yours off in the end then?

Rixio

Yes, i had to take the studs out in order to maneuver it free...

You have to take alot off...i suggest you wait until iv done the walkthrough because i made some mistakes that are easily done if its the first time your doing it and it may cost you more than it did me...i tore a few pipes etc but im lucky because i had them spare!

1 tip i will give you is get some money bags and label them with the nuts & bolts from each section of the removal process and take lots of pics aswell...:)

Back to work on mine now its stopped raining!!

Hi Rixio.

Just logged back on n seen the replies. :-) .
I got it stripped back as far as I could . Air pump off, altinater, all the water hoses and the oil lines diconnected and got the housing free. Couldent get the hosing off though cos of the four long studs. So whilst there I checked the rear gasget on the pump and there was nothing wrong with it :-(. The main problem I found was that three of the short bolts that go though the front of the water pump into the housing had been had loctite put on them and the heads sheared off in the socket. Tried my bolt removal kit and managed to get one out but the other two arent gonna come out. Ive lost the light now so ive stopped for the day. Put my drills on charge and ill drill out the other two bolts out tomorrow.

This is not much of a fun job.

Thanks

Niall

Well you got more done than i did today! I just got the 1 of the blanking plates on for my air pump removal kit!

My first day off in seven so I got cracking at it early. Really annoyed about the short bolts that sheared of though. I didnt really want to have to start this jub untill my decat and pully kit arrived. Can\'t be helped though.
