yer probably.  if it is like a reducer that may have a tread it self.  if you were to use an anti clockwise tap on it.  then as it gets tight it should undo the other thread and therefore make it back to the original hole.  then just need a standard sump plug

damn dont have access to anything like that... I will try chemical bonding the nut onto it then turning it.

you should be able to pic up a anti clockwise tap, like an M6 or something fairly easy.  if not i would chemically bond it and take it some where that will be able to figure it out.  as long as it is done properly and you clean the area off really well then you should get a good enough bond.  i think, lol.

Why dont you take it off, take it to a local garage and ask them to take it out or just buy a 2nd hand sump. Will possible be a lot quicker and not going to break the bank.

I would but i need it out the unit for 9am tommorrow morning for the start of work. So its a bodge then take it to my usual garage on my afternoon of on wednesday. Thanks alot for your help. I think bonding should be fine, even if its leaking a little if its only to move it a mile then 5 miles the next day to the garage it should be fine.

Is there alot of pressure in the sump on one of these engines?

Only one good thing has come from this, atleast now I know as it could have went un noticed and broken one day while driving = no oil!! EEK!

Ok, just been looking at this and reckon if I cant get the part out the sumphole some how its a sump off job. How big a job is this on the rx7? Anyone had it done at a garage, as I dont fancy trying it myself on this car.

Jit

sump off is nice and easy if you can get the car high enough....

Cally

Taking it to a garage as I am not allowed to make a mess in the unit at my work and I know I would trying to do this. Pretty gutted though having only just bought the car.

TBH its not a bad idea, it would be quite easy to get out if the sump was off but its not a nice job taking the sump off full of oil.

The other option would be to get a second hand sump, then drill a hole in yours to let the oil out (cleanly) then swap it over.

Thing is if the insert if soft a Garage may be able to drill it and colapse it (the threaded part of the sump is quite hard as its steel)

The sump can be drained no problem as once you get the end off the part stuck has a hole in it for the probe. Or hopefully if I use some chemical metal bond then then the part might stick enough to twist out, then just replace it with a plug. Just hope it doesnt cost too much and all is sorted in time for TRAX.
Would I be able to replace this probe with a filter sandwich plate?
