Right looking to buy an rx7 in roughly 2 months:

2 years no claims
3 years driving no accidents
no convications
21 in feb
live in a generally insurance freindly area
will be garaged
Will put tracker and cat 1 on it.

right to the point i will have about £7000 to £8000 at a stretch to get an rx7 and wont settle for anything less, but insurance companys are a a pain when it comes to modifications, and i do want to tinker, they up the insurance for better brakes!

I was planning on following the modification guide on www.sportcompactcarweb.com/projectcars/ as in relieability mods and to make it breath easier, so induction kit was thinking of APEXI TWIN AIR FILTER INTAKE KIT and ditching the pre cat and other ristrictions, but to do this i need a new ecu apexi pfc (insurnance companys dont like new computers), plus second oil cooler if it has\'nt already got one and a vmount (which one to go for theres a few out there now??) how much do you think insurance would increase my premium % or would they do it for every % more BHP. i ask this because it makes more sense to buy one with this modifiactions already done + engine rebuild.

so what is relitively insurance friendly

Any advice reguarding modification affect on insurance would be appreicated (sorry if its already been asked a couple of hundered times)

7-8k should get you a nice mild modded 92-94.
Only UK models have the pre cat.
Standard brakes are already good.  If you really fancy bigger brake disks.  You can always upgrade them to RZ, RS, RSR ones.  About 20mm bigger, and since they are standard Mazda items, they shoulnd affect your insurance.
If you go V-mount.  Its best you put that Apexi power FC in asap.

Its the top group insurance too, so usually the typeR ones are not more expensive to insure than the standard ones.

Your better off declaring the power increase over standard model (good on a typeR) and then list the mods. They are better equiped to give you a quote off it and not just add crazy figures for small stuff !

I don\'t think anything is insurance friendly nowadays apart from being a member of a car club !

OK then declaring power increase, does anyone have i an idea how this works?
i take it there is a method behind the madness, for example for every increase of 10% power over standard there is a 20% increase in insurance premium.
Does it work something like that???

Yep, they will have a standard fee for so much extra bhp. Your better quoting at the wheel bhp than flywheel because it matchs real life. I think they hate big long lists of mods with no indication of what they actually do the car so are more happy to quote a crazy price and scare the buisness away !
