I have a friend of a friend who has regassed my aircon for me, he does it for a job so he had the R12 conversion kit to hand.

Drained it tested it gassed it. However when i switched it on the clutch wasn\'t kicking in on the compressor. After a bit of head scratching the the clutch decided to engage all by itself. GREAT... 5 seconds later it dis-engaged... He explained that the system works on a pressure switch and that it could be that causing the problem.

So my question is...

Does it sound like its a dodgy switch OR have we got the wrong amount of gas/refrigerant in?

I searched the threads on here and came to the conclusion that 600g is the right amount of refrigerant. But he says when you convert to the new gas you are only supposed to put 60% of the original amount in. So is 600g the original figure or is it the amount of new stuff?

Also when it kicks in it makes a pretty wierd sound like a spool up swoosh, it that normal or could it be the compressor that\'s dead?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I\'m sick of turning up everywhere with big sweat patches!
