Hi,

Can anyone recommend a manufacturer of protective covers?  (Specifically for a standard \'92 type-x touring).

Thanks & best wishes for Xmas/New Year etc...

Neil

Shaq

Yeah i was gonna buy one from specialist car covers
http://www.carcoversuk.com/

these ones are good if you have the money to spend its like a 3 layer thing !

but ended up buying a haldfords one it was the top of the range one for a rx7 !
was about £90 but it left scratch mark s on my car ! :reallymad  so i recommend no one buy this unless its garaged then use it as the wind is always blowing on the cover which tends to scratch it.

See your from raynes park! i have a few mates down there i am from sutton ! what does your car look like so i know who to look out for !

Hi Shaq -  thanks for the tip on Halfords - I was going to pay a visit!  Hopefully got a quote coming from carcovers, so we\'ll see.

Have seen a couple round SW London - latest was Sunday pm going north on the 217 (white, modified). My car = standard, black, auto \'92 typeX - easily recongiseable \'cos  dotted with sap & birdsh*t.....hence the need for a cover....

Appreciate the info - thx!

Didn\'t notice the rims, but definitely saw a wing (on struts, I think), big exhaust & a bunch of names in black down the front wing (greddy was 1 I think).  no coloured rims on mine, totally bog standard, but it\'s been off the road for a few weeks waiting plugs, filters & new brake pads.  Hoping for a little excursion over the next few days tho as I\'m really missing driving it.  Neil

was having a look at this site the other day http://www.classicadditions.co.uk/ ... although they don\'t seem to make one for the 1st gen, they might do a third gen one.

They look pretty smart

nallen

Mike - thanks for the site.  Hmm, I can only see a category for "RX7 1988+", but will give them a go.

Mark - nice car!

Happy new year all, Neil

Thread hijack,

There seems to be a silver rx7 jplate round wallington area lately and another silver jplate in thornton heath, and a white turbo II which a lady drives around wallington sutton area. I guess round there is becoming pretty popular for rx7\'s. I have some friend that go down back of purleyu way on Thursday nights and often tell me they see rx7\'s there aswell. I keep meaning to go done there and show my boost and go home again but have not made it down yet.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but did you ever get a quote from specialist car covers? I\'m looking around for a decent cover, and they look like they\'ll be much less harsh on paint than a cheapo halfords jobbie.

...oh, and did anyone find out if classic additions do a 3rd gen cover? They look good too.

Hi, got this from covercraft:

Outdoor (& Indoor) use:

Technalon E4    - least weather resistant, most knocks protective    Â£195
                        Colours: Silver Grey, Tan, Blue

Noah                - more compact, more highly water resistant
£220
                        Colours: Silver Grey

Weathershield    - most weatherproof, most compact - The Best!    Â£310
Colours: Dark Grey or Taupe (biscuity brown.)
                       NEW COLOURS NOW AVAILABLE:
Black, Red, Yellow, Bright Blue, Green and Light
Blue.

All prices are inclusive of VAT.  Delivery within the UK is included.

& then another from Classic Additions, which I think was about £90 for their lightweight outdoor.  They did have RX7 in their list, but I couldn\'t say if it was a custom-fit job.

Haven\'t made my mind up yet........

My dad has used covercraft on his Lotus and they are very good. However, be aware of the following before you purchase:

1) The covers are very bulky and heavy - certainly a bit big to fit in your boot etc. This leaves the question of where to put them when not on your car, especially if they are wet from rain.

2) You shouldn\'t really put them on if the car is wet.

3) Whilst durable, they don\'t last forever if used outside. I think my Dad is on his second or third now and it\'s certainly looking a little long in the tooth.

Unless your car is standard (bodykit wise) then you will need them to make you up a pattern which costs a few quid more.
