sadly there isnt much u can do to get totaly smooth finish i.e no orange peel

we did my corrrado from bare metal and had same thing

sadly best way and result is sanding between coats and very long time consuming

sorry mate lol

interloper393

have you got a ruff guide and process for painting? just to see if im doing it ok lol

aposegil

erh sadly nope as it was my mate that did most of the work i.e spraying it was me that did the rubbing down mainly to metal

yep i got the bad end of the stick lol but then i did what i was told lol

Temperature could be a factor..?

aposegil

that is true to hot and dries to quickly and to cold and think runs more

im guessing ur doing all this in a vented temp controled room?

interloper393

does a garage count? lol.... well the mods to the gun has helped quite a bit so im jus gunna do it the hard way lol, i cant get it perfect just by spraying it so im just guna have to wet n dry with 1200 and polish back to a shine.. no biggy, just was wondering if thats what the garages do.. quite time consuming but tit keeps me busy :D

I always thought you associated orange peel with low temps, however in this weather that surely cant be the case!:Hammer

Surely the internet has a guide? :)

Q:  How can I get rid of orange peel paint defects?

A:  Orange peel is a coating defect that occurs when the coating that emerges from the spray gun is not properly atomized.  As a paint sprayer consultant, I usually give two predominant methods to eliminate orange peel:

Without changing the air atomizing pressure, DECREASE the flow of paint to the gun by turning the fluid control knob to the right, clockwise.

Without changing the fluid flow to the gun, INCREASE the air pressure to the gun.

With HVLP guns you are only allowed to increase the air pressure so that the pressure at the cap of the gun does not exceed 10 psig.  There is a third method, namely to add some thinners (solvent) to the paint but as an environmental coating consultant, I never recommend this as it adds to air pollution.

Hope that helps mate. :cheers

How do paint without thinners and hardner mixed with the paint,....must be a pain in the ar5e ?........:Typing

Ok lets start simple.

What paint you using? what equiptment you putting in on with?

There is alot of diffrent things that cause orange peel, the most common is lack of knolage, if you use the wrong Hardner, Wrong ratio mix, Too much or too little thinners just to start with. Then there is too low presure, too hot etc etc

You should never paint in Direct sunligh (i.e. out side especaliy when warm like now) there is lots of reasons for this but the biggest one is UV dries paint very quickly and add heat too and it will be drying as its coming out the Gun, so the idea is you paint the Car etc in a Garage with a bit of air flow (somthing like tha garage door 1/4 open don\'t forget there will be overspray so don\'t park close :)) then when its done and Flashed off wheel out into the sun, then it will go off quick (be carfull no Birds Dump on it or you\'ll be doing it again) And don\'t forget a fresh painted car is Staticly Charged so don\'t be rubbing your window frames on the house down while its going off.

Paint wise you want Decent quiality 2k paint, in this weather with a slow hardner, guessing your Using something like a Devilbiss JGA suction gun or a Devilbiss GTI Drop feed gun? they both have diffrent ways of mixing the paint and aplication presures, You\'ll always need slightly more Thinners in a Suction gun to get a Nice finish than a Drop feeder, Presure wise the Suction gun will also need more presure the JGA i used to have ran well at 50psi the GTI i use likes about 30psi to get a simalar finish.

Painting is not too hard if you know how too do it, depending on what your Using, if its Solid colour (kind of the same applys with Clear) the end finish will always folow the first coat, if you put that on Dry it will look dry until you over apply, so the idea is to slightly over thin and move fast with tight over lap whilst half triggering, this will give a flat finish without over applying, give this a good 5-10 minutes until you can touch it with out it going stringy or getting a colour coded fingure, then you can put a nice coat on, i find it quite important to put the last coat on slower than the first in the more Traditional  half over lap, also try to get it on nice in one go dont go back as you\'ll cover  it in overspray and end up over applying.

Yeh there is, let me do it :)

Quality paint is the key.... Sounds like you have the wrong hardner, its skinning over as your putting it on so your over applying to compensate.

interloper393

turns out i wasnt using enough air through the gun.. its alot better now and nice n smooth :) still needs a bit of a rub down and polish but no where near what it was like before..

I use upol thinners/hardeners and the paint is mixed by a pro so im guessing its good stuff lol.. never had any colour mismatch issues.. an i use a gravity fed gun made by upol its a maximun...
