Was at WGT trying to get my boost problem sorted after the Thor racing dyno day last week. The cars still cutting fuel at 1 bar. The car made 316hp before cutting out at Thor. This is with a fresh engine thats only done 2k miles. Street port, HKS front mount, Feed rad, 3" downpipe, Attain straight through, cleaned injectors, new clutch & fly, HKS filters & recond turbos. How are you guys pushing 320+hp???

Apparently according to Pip, my wastegate isnt big enough & needs boring or to change my exhaust as its too free flowing! So another £700 for him.

Wouldnt/shouldnt this have been done when the engine was built?

I told him what the problem was so he put it on the dyno had a few runs then said "Ah it was this solenoid, its fine now" so he replaced it, ran it again and it still cuts out. Fiddles around for another 2 hours and says that its the waste gate. Charged me for a new solenoid and 2 hours on the dyno even though the problem wasnt sorted.

I had a problem with the throttle at idle. If you touch the pedal and let off quickly, the revs will die and the car stalls. Asked him to sort it, he said "That should do see how you get on with it, its the best i can do." Still cutting off it was 5:45pm so i left as they were closing shop.

I turned on my side lights after getting off the M62 as it was getting dull, when i got to the give way the car is idling erraticly from 1000rpm to 1700rpm. I thought that was strange. When i got home i popped the bonnet and well, hmm im sure this dent wasnt there earlier. Checked the throttle cable etc everything seemed fine. Turned the lights off and the idle settled down, flipped them back on and the revs go crazy again.

I rang him yesterday to tell him the problem and he said when he tweaked the settings for idle it must have changed the other settings aswell. When you come back i\'ll sort it out. Regarding the dent "You were watching the whole time so i dont understand how that could have happened, i\'l have to see it first." Apart from the fact that i didnt/couldnt watch the whole time.

Anyway i dont care about the dent that much but more of this boost problem thats gonna cost me another £700! Whats the story guys...what should i do?

Nobody have any suggestions?

it really could be a number of things regarding your boost problems.....I had a similar thing when diagnosing my problem....found something which I thought it was, fixed it, but same problem....I solved mine after one trip to a specialist who thought they had solved the problem....they hadnt and i had to investigate further...eventually found another duff pipe into the wastegate...changed it and jobs a goodun

I cant see anyreason why he should have done what you are suggesting at the rebuild though.

Then again, I dont know the ins and outs of your problem....would you care to explain it?

Basically when you go full throttle, at around 5k ish the fuel cuts out and the car jerks as its hitting 1 bar, which it shouldnt do. Since my visit on friday, Pip has done something that now makes it jerk less but it still cuts/struggle for fuel. You can hear it burble and struggle for power at around 5k+. I\'l get the dyno graphs out of the car tmrw and post them. You can see where boost is being controlled and where its not, apparently, all i see is a red line, blue line and green line :Hammer

About doing it at the same time as the rebuild, this is my logic :

If you know the power is going to be higher than before the rebuild, why leave a small wastegate not large enough to handle the power? Unless you want the customer to come back and spend another £700  :2Rolleyes

I agree, if he rebuilt the engine he should have tested it for you and sorted any problems like that as part of the rebuild. Pip is rather expensive....which is why I\'m trying to learn as much as can myself.

Hope you get it sorted matey!!

Is this car single turbo or still twin??

I had something similar when I first got my RX, it was fitted with the wrong plugs.  I very much doubt that is your issue though if Pip has rebuilt it though.

I have some outstanding issues with Pip/WGT since my rebuild.  But i\'m planning a a re-visit hopefully this month where I expect them to be sorted:

1) my boost \'wobbles\' when the first turbo cuts in (didnt do it before rebuild)
2) my speedo no longer works
3) my boost guage and Exthaust Temp gauge no longer work.

I\'m sure Pip will sort them out for me, he was struggling to get everything done in the day I was there for remapping etc.

Update:

Was at the garage today trying to figure out where a knocking sound was coming from and doing another coat of underseal. I noticed that the exhaust was blowing from the front joint! I seperated the 2 used some exhaust paste repositioned it and seems to be ok now. I left it for around an hour to harden and set, while i MOT\'d the Merc, which passed with flying colours :D

On the drive home i gave it some and it ran smoothly all the way to redline...Could this have been the problem then, cause of the boost creap? Will have to take for a proppa burn tmrw as it started raining so didnt want to push it.

Sounds promising mate - fingers crossed

My single is getting boost creep to 1.5 bar at 4k rpm.  Reworx have said this is due to a small wastegate so they will be trying a 50mm one to see if they can sort the problem.  Got me thinking if my downpipe is blowing could this be the problem, or indeed my exhaust is huge so could this me a factor.

Its a rainy shiity day today so i cant really get under the car to check if its still leaking, will try and check if it gets better, but defo not gona take it for a burn today in this rain :(

I wanted to kill 2 birds with one stone by getting it dyno\'d at Pips tmrw and then going to Mascrat on the way home but its not looking promising for either :(

Gman get it checked out it could possibly be the exhaust otherwise put a bung or silencer in it and see how that works
