Just out of interest chaps,

what are the signs that the 3rd rotary engine requires a rebuild? What should one be looking for?

Glenn Butcher

Hi Nikp,

In no particular order...

* Hard to start when cold
* Hard to start when hot/warm.
* Bluey smoke on idle/driving/backing off after accelerating.
* White smoke - could be water seals.
* Check the colour of the oil, should be a nice oil colour (not murky).
* No obvious things like leaks of water/oil
* Sounds like a lawn-mower (on one rotor)
* All the other things like chassis damage (from an accident)suspension, rust, brakes, should be checked of course.

But really - do yourself a favour, if you are looking to purchase have a compression check done which really means getting a Rotary specialist to look at it.
Thanks,

nikp

Maybe foolishly (don\'t tell me off, please!! ) but I have now purchased an rx7, and done this without a compression test being done on it. However, the price was good, and even if it does need a rebuild doing to it straight away, it\'s still a bargain. As far as I\'m concerned, anyway!

Everything else on it was fine. I just wanted to know for information for the future. Cheers. Any other owning advice would be great!!

No probs. - have a sift through the Forum Nik, let us know if things aren\'t clear etc.

I had a PM from a guy who is new to it all, and has asked for an FAQ section to be done.  Things like "care and maintainence" would be a good thing to have there.

So might just have to be done.
Thanks,

and may I also say what a fantastic car it is too!! It grips like it\'s glued to the road, and the brakes are amazing!! Wow!
