Hey

I\'ve just been thinking nothing serious at the moment but would a RB26DETT engine fit into my rex as i say nothing serious at the minute.

Thanks Guys

asp

thats a very long engine,to much weight over the front wheels i think,
only any good to you if your going for MASSIVE power and drag race it,

it probly will fit its just how much money and time it will take,

I wouldnt go that route personally, one of the best characteristics of an rx is the light wieght engine and 50/50 weight distribution, surely by fitting a rb26 lump this would throw this?

Depends are you looking for huge power? Maybe a 3 rotor could be a better option?

And depends on budget as well i guess!

Personally for me the rotary engine is unique and one of the reasons an RX7 is an RX7, take that away and you take away the personality and the essence of the car....

OK thanks for that but what about a SR20 DET engine that any easier i dont know if this is any comparison but i read a max power article that said a scooby lump will go straight in (apperantly) but will the 200sx go do you think.

i love those lax power articles..... :Hammer
just like porsche engines go straight in beetles......

A few of these have been done in Japan. I will try and dig out some pics. :)

Ok thanks for that what bits and stuff need to be changed in order to complete this

THe boxer lump from the scooby is really quite a compact thing.  Not much different to the wankle without any ancillaries although a bit wider.  No clue on the simplicity of integration though.  THe electricals would be almost as complex as the physical install though.

I still think that the cost to get silly bhp from the RB26 (e.g. 800+) would be more than having a custom built rotary that can take the boost and revs to make the same power.

The 20b rotary conversion would also be a good way to go for big power as the engine would make the bhp with less stress (boost & revs) than the 13b.

I\'d suspect the RB conversion would end up costing 10-15k in total and there may be reliability issues with things not mating properly (e.g. gearbox to driveshaft).

Scooby lump would fit but forget ever changing the spark plugs without removing the motor - unless you have the front end re-made from CDS or CrMo and that won\'t be that cheap.

The problem with all the conversions is the ECU, the actual fab work to get the stuff in place wouldn\'t be that much - even a RB26 + Box would probably cost around £4500 to fit (well) but the you have to work out how you are going to control it.  You going to need some of the FD loom for lights etc and then a custom loom for the engine meaning an expensive ECU e.g Motec or Autronic, etc.etc. that\'s going to be a good £4000 by the time its wired and running....

You see you can use someone who charges a sensible labour rate for the fabrication work, but with ECU and wiring to get a good job its going to be expensive :(

Still it\'d be interesting to do

OK Thanks for that guys think its out of the question and as said the rx7 is known for its rotary engine
