Recently me and buddy of mine purchased an RZ tranny from 2000 FD3s..

Wondering if there is any difference between the two...  I heard that RZ tranny handles slightly more power..

But right now, I\'m trying to figure out if we got snagged on this deal or if we actually recieved the RZ tranny..

There is no part numbers and only thing I see is the "6088" engraved on some of the housings..

Please Help!!

I think that is actually a 8809!:D

I might get under mine this weekend and take a look, see if its got the same number on it, mines a \'96 though.

I\'ll see what I can find out. :D

After chasing a 600 bhp Supra for a couple of hours, the slightly whiny bearing in my gearbox failed last night....

1st & 3rd gear particularly noisy now, sounds as if a layshaft bearing for 1st & 3rd expired.

I\'ll be very interested to know if for sure, the RZ gearbox is stronger than others.....Always looking for ways to upgrade my Rex too!

:D :D

Hi Miguel,

I wouldn\'t have thought the gearboxes would be any different between the models.  I have never heard of this - so I\'m assuming that there aren\'t any differences.

Diffs. - yes (ratio\'s and type of LSD\'s).

I\'ll ask around for you.
Thanks,

Miguel

Apparently, the first Bathurst models have a slightly different gearbox to other models (For homologation purposes) - but too hard to find a good one, even in Japan!

I\'ve found a box for my car yesterday...through my local tuner, Nishiki.

It\'s from a 2001 25,000km RX-7. Should be okay, I guess!

Looking forward to getting it fitted on Wednesday. Fitting a new clutch plate and thrust bearing even though I fitted same 1 year ago...worth it to avoid trouble with the clutch later, I guess....

..>Damn, wish I\'d abused the clutch a bit more, now! :D :D

Hi mate,

Hmmm, sounds interesting - like to know more about that.

Has your tuner mentioned anything about the RZ boxes being stronger?  I still haven\'t found anyone that knows any different.

Why don\'t you get yourself a //www.gurumotorsports.com straight cut box? :)

They do a drag and a circuit version.
Thanks,

Christopher

I don\'t know about being stronger but I read on a website that the RZ was closer gear ratio? Is it true... Hell I dont know!!!! :)

If I find the website it was on I\'ll send you the link. I think it was an importers website ( something pope ) they were selling an RZ and said it had closer gears being that model.

Boxs are the same I think.

The RZ came with a 4.3:1 diff though - which makes the overall gearing a bit shorter than the \'stock\' FD rear ends which are 4.1:1 - and the autos which are longer again at 3.9:1.

What does that mean? Does an RZ accelerate quicker than an RS-R? Would an RS-R have a hight top end because of it? I know nothing about the ratios only that if you move the little bar on Grand Turismo it makes the graph move on the left of it :)

20B_boy

If an RSR has the \'normal\' 4.1:1 diff then generally speaking yes, an RZ may accelerate quicker - I think the RZ is a bit faster 0-60 on paper than the other models?

A \'longer\' diff will give you a higher terminal speed for a given engine RPM, yes. For e.g. 4K rpm in 5th with a 3.9:1 diff might give you say 95mph whilst swapping for a  4.3:1 diff might reduce that to say 85mph...
