Ok,

my Fd has been standing for 3 weeks whilst i have been doing a rats nest replacment.

went to start it yesterday and she caught very quickley then just died.

when i went to turn the key again it sounded like the battery was labouring.

So i connected up to the trusty rover, and went for it agiin, the negine now sounds like its turning over with the occasional bit of combustion but not catching. It rewally sounds like it wants to start.

does this sound like its flooded??

i have tried both method of de-flooding the engine (plugs in and plugs out) but she wont start.

when i took the plugs out they were wet.

finaly tried to bump it down a hill yesterday, but there was so little battery left the car just died......  SO

1. does this sound like a flooded engine??
2. would the rover give it enough battery to get it going??

any suggestions please!!!

thanks

Nick

A great method of starting after flooding was a tow start.  My was flooded, tried all the known methods none worked.  Got my friend to tow me at about 20 mph, I was in second.  Didnt take long for it to catch like that.  Doing like that burns all the excess fuel I believe.

Im not mechanically minded so better check with the gurus if that is advisable of not though!!  :)  Hope that helps you at least get it started.

have you tried cleaning the plugs after the de flood or even putting a new set in instead?

just an idea!

im by far no expert but that would be the place to start for me, mine was the same when it used to flood, give the plugs a really good clean or just change them, (good excuse for a service  :Thumbs-up )

i think your right, i was a bit silly coz i tried to start it a few times so prob filled the chambers full of fuel.

i will try it on a hill next w/end with lovely new plugs (thank you AGAIN Clive)

fairly sure thats what it is, i have been a bit woried that i may not have connected everything when putting rats nest back together.......ive been trying to convcince myself its not flooded coz its never done it before.

If your going to do that, make sure battery is full charged, put plugs on oven or blow tourch (gentley) hot or warm plugs are better than cold new, and dont roll it down hill as you wont get long enough or fast enough, much better to tow if poss.
