Gunk in rotor housings - pics.

Hi all,

Just thought I would share - been doing a clean out at mum and dads place.  Found these housings and thought I would share this pic. as you can see what it looks like.  It has almost blocked that particular channel.
Thanks,

iaint

What is the gunk made of?  Is that an oil channel or coolant?  Would it indicate infrequent changes and for coolant, no additives?

Coolant gunk. Probably rusty goop?!

Most engines that have done high mileage tend to have this sort of gunk in that place.
If you look carefully Glenn you will see that there should be a small hole just above the gunk.Below the hole is like a trap for the gunk.It should only be on one side mostly of the rotor housings,it is the return side,ie the back of the housings relative to the back and front of the car.
