Should I sell my car whole or strip it for parts?

Well, since mine has now died and I simply cannot be dealing with the hassle of rebuilding it (although i\'m capable of doing it myself), i\'m stuck as to whether to bother trying to sell it whole with the blown engine, or stripping it for parts.

I\'ve spent thousands on it, but there comes a point where you have to cut your losses. The spec is as follows;
The spec is absolutely huge and is as follows (copied from here );

Engine
13B-REW Twin rotary 1308cc
Garrett GT40 Single turbo with GT35R internals
Apexi Power FC ECU and commander
Apexi AVC-R boost controller
GReddy Type R Blow off Valve
Tial 44mm Wastegate
Fluidyne Aluminium radiator
HKS Rotary type ignition amplifier
Magnecor leads
GReddy elbow, with additional 680cc injectors in holders (currently not plumbed in)
850cc primaries with a modified fuel rail along with the 850cc secondaries
Bosch 044 fuel pump
Fuel pressure regulator
Large front mount intercooler
Twin oil coolers
Hyper SR cat back exhaust
Dragon De-cat pipe
Underdrive pulleys
Air pump removed
Water injection
ACT 6 puck clutch
Currently mapped to 0.75 bar
GReddy turbo timer
Golden Eagle polished pressure manifold
OBX silicon radiator pipes
GReddy sandwich plate between the oil filter and engine block that allows you to attach an aftermarket oil pressure gauge and temperature gauge. I can supply the gauges for an additional £30 (Defi style black gauges that light up white)
Secondary throttles removed, along with some additional engine simplification
Magnecor leads
Derestricted.

Body
Sexy style front bumper
Chargespeed sideskirts
C-West rear bumper
Nemesis style front lights
99+ spec sidelights
De spoilered and de aerialed
Full respray in Aprilia Giallo Brio pearlescent paint
Lights resprayed in Audi Black Magic
Takakaira number plate bracket that hides the front number plate above 50mph!

Wheels, tyres, suspension
Mazda RX8 18"x 8" rims resprayed in Audi Black magic with very few kerbs
Bridgestone Potenza RE050a tyres (225/45/18) all around, that were fitted about 4 months ago and so have plenty of tread
5mm spacers on the rear
Jaran racing front tower strut brace
Rear strut brace
Uprated rear anti roll bar

Interior
Leather seats front and rear
Polished door sills
Kicker 6.5" components (will require an amplifier to use or connection to the headunit)
rear pockets in replacement of the speakers
Genuine JDM RX-7 car mats
Aftermarket steering wheel

Other stuff
Toad Ai606 Category 1 alarm and mobiliser
9 months MOT
Battery relocated to boot

As above, i\'ve spent absolutely thousands on the car, but unfortunately I don\'t really want the hassle of rebuilding the engine. With regards to the engine, it had been rebuilt before I purchased the car, but I am unable to provide proof of this or confirmation of when it was carried out.

Bearing in mind the car is nigh on 14 years old, I do have to say that it isn\'t perfect and does require minor tidying up in addition to the rebuild. It does have 9 months MOT left however. Also, the private plate IS NOT included in the sale. This will be removed prior to sale and I suspect that the original registration will be applied.

Bad points
Speedo surround needs replacing (or respraying) due to a poor interior retrim by a previous owner
The car was resprayed about 4 months ago, but it was never polished. As such, the car could do with a proper machine polish to bring up the paint and to get rid of some of the impurities in the paint
Slight oil leak at rear of engine, although this would be sorted with the rebuild
Rear hub bushing needs replacing - This was due to be done next week, but theres little point as it needs a rebuild - I will supply the bushing however
Door sensor on the alarm plays up slightly
Drivers side door handle needs repairing as it doesn\'t always open the drivers door
Passenger side door needs adjusting
Washer jets don\'t work correctly, although I suspect that they have just become unattached from the washer bottle
Slightly worn drivers seat

Its on about 116000 kilometres, but the speedo provides readings in both MPH (up to 112mph) and km (to 180km/h)

Do you guys think it would be better for me to strip it for parts and get rid of it in bits that way, or to try and sell the whole thing for £6k as is?

Thanks :)

Looks like alot of work has gone into the car,i guess put it up as the whole car and see how much you could get max for it, if that fails then you may have to sell by breaking it down depending on if you can sell all the bits ?

I know Dragon sometimes buy a car with a dead engine but not sure how kind Ross is on payment for a non-runner, cant hurt to ask though ?

Hi, I know I dont post in this section much doe to the fact I am not too up on the whole fd scene. But I think that if you put a price along side each item on the list above(good second hand price) then you might be surprised to see that your money could be made. However the work involved and the hassle with selling everything might put you off. There was an fd on here not too long back that was engine less and the guy was after £1600. I think this would have been snapped up. In fact I was about to go and sell my spleen to the bank manager.!
It is a nice car and would be a shame to see it broken up but i think that the fd market is at a low at the moment.
Good luck with it. Cool colour.
  cheers, michael.

I\'ve already done a rough (and possibly optimistic) guide of how much money I can make back. I\'ve valued the parts at £8k ish, so I guess £6k should be obtainable.

i just did a VERY rough tally up of the majour things listed and I reckon that you could get more than 6k for it in parts. Much easier though if someone just took the whole thing I know.
  cheers again, michael.
