Hi all,

I have finally got round to installing my Defi gauges, and got to thinking - it\'s all well and good monitoring boost pressure, oil temp, water temp, oil pressure, but what am I monitoring against ? What is normal and what is a warning sign ?

I\'ve found various bits of info on various sites, but would it be a good idea to create a sticky for this information - commonly monitored engine parameters. I realise things change a bit when you start modding, but there must be a common ground that we can use (or maybe have a tabular format for different states of tune).

If people think it\'s a good idea, can the powers that be start something up ?

In the meantime, what am I looking out for on Oil Pressure (I know all the others) ? i.e. at what point would you consider pressure is low or high ? What is abnormal ?

Many thanks, Craig

Boost Pressure = Looking for boost spikes. This can lead to det which is one way to kill an engine.

Oil/Water Temps = Making sure they are up to a good level before giving it some heavy right foot action. It is not a wise thing to push a cold engine. On track days and spirited driving on private roads ;) during the summer months these also give an idication if you need to let things cool down a little.

Oil Pressue = This I will leave for those companies that build these engines.
