Hey all,

Who stocks the 99-spec bumper in the UK? Though I\'d prefer the one that rotaryextreme do which is urethane and has no plate holder on it?

Ta :)

I take it I\'d need the lip, lights and oil cooler ducts on top of that too?

Will get back to you when I have my car :)

Yeah sorry Mazda price it all seperately.

Hi Paul,

I did the conversion you are asking about to my car with a stock Mazda nose and then trimmed the number plate holder off.

A word of warning though, to do this conversion properly with the correct underbumper/ support, lip spoiler, lights and related undertray stuff you are looking at a 2 Grand conversion!
All the best Clive

Hi Clive!

Cheers for the info :) The one on rotaryextreme has urethane front bumper, lights, lip spoiler, oil cooler ducts for about $1300, plus say $300 shipping (have shipped one before) and it\'s maybe £800 or so but as you say you need the proper undertray to get the brake ducts (?) which no-one seems to sell except Mazda.

I still can\'t decide but I still prefer it over any aftermarket bumper and I\'m just not a fan of the original bumper.

Cheers again :)

Paul.

I used to have a FEED FRP front bumper. Got sick of the stone chips (Had my mum spend 4 hours trying to paint in all of them once, I kid you not)!

Clive\'s right - fitting a complete 1999 front bumper\'s expensive if buying all the parts new, but then again - so\'s an original FEED bumper....

Anyway, did it and haven\'t looked back. Granted, it still gets little stone chips, but eurethane is much more flexible than FRP and so more impact resistant. Put on a carbon lip and it\'s sorted.

Have seen a factory in China making VW Santana eurethane bumper mouldings which was quite interesting to watch (Santana VW\'s are used as Taxis in China). To make one Eurethane mould costs around $1,000,000 USD  and this is why you can\'t get performance after mkt Eurethane bumpers.
I would doubt anyone would tool up to make these for FD\'s without the number plate moulding, due to the number of bumpers they\'d have to sell just to recoup costs.
....Don\'t be too sure of what you may have seen advertised  :wiggle

BTW, the 1999 lip is almost a straight fit onto earlier model FD front bumpers. Looks good and is a low cost, sensible mod. :D :D

This is the one I found:

http://www.rx7store.net/product_p/99%20bumper%20replica.htm

With the costs involved I was actually looking at going for a Veilside D1 kit or a C-West DRFT kit as the whole kit seems to be cheaper than the 99-spec front bumper though I\'d obviously need the lights for them as well.

Ho well, something will be on the shopping list :) Just have to sell my car!

Surely you can mod the standard support bar by cutting away the space for the lights,  like you have to do on any aftermarket bumper using the 99 spec lights.

I was looking at doing this conversion, if it really costs 2k then I might have a rethink !!!

Anyone got pics of what a standard looking bumper looks like with the 99 spec lip ?

Yep you can cut the support. That link I posted recommends doing that.
