In for a rebuild at the moment and a street port and although a lot has been said about porting and the potential for more power, in practice what do people think: -

1/ does it affect the idle much
2/ is the reduction in low down torque noticeable
3/ I\'m after reliability not so much out and out power - will this be affected
4/ does fuelling need to be dealt with at this stage or can it be left until later
5/ is it more noisy
6/ any other pros/cons

What do you think  :cheers

Prob not going to be much help but mine was rebuilt and street ported just before I bought it at WGT.

1. Idled perfectly, no probs.
2. Not had / been in anything to compare it to really. Seems to pickup very quickly.
3. Touch wood no porting related probs 12k later.
4. It was running stock injectors, fuel pump and ecu. Aagin all with no probs although duty cycle was getting to the upper limits.
5. Mine is noisier than some Rex\'s but don\'t know if thats much to do with the porting.

Car now has Apexi ecu, induction kit, full exhaust system & decat so noise more down to this I think.

HTH.

All of the above really depend on how serious the porting is.

My understanding: as a rule the larger the ports, the more lumpy the idle, the heavier the fuel consumption the more top end power (at the cost of low end torque). Unless you go for really silly Monster ports or Bridge ports the longevity of the engine shouldn\'t be particularly affected.

Loud? Hell yes! :D

Thanks Guys. Would like to keep it quieter though, but hey all tuning mods seem to be a compromise.
