hi, im new to forums here.

I have been looking at ten gen 3 rx7s in england,uk. but one in particular described below has my attention:-

Can anyone experienced point me in the right direction:

one jap import gen3 (58,000 miles, 1994 type R) im  looking at has not got a recipted engine rebuild. I have read various posts and papers advising a rebuilt car the best buy.  but the owner of one particular car shows me it has recently been imported [3 months ago], there are new clips, screws and sealent around the engine, rotor housings and sump pan. The car is standard apart from a Knight Sports Ecu and aftermarket exhaust.

My first question is this: is there any other reason for the sealent and new clips/screws, or would it be safe to assume the seller is correct in saying the engine must of been recently rebuilt. He assures me the engine has been compression tested and will hit 8, and will offer to show me a new test in person if i commit to buying, that the engine will hit 8 when i buy the car. Is that evidence enough that the engine has been rebuilt in japan?

My second concern:is that the Knight Sports Ecu is mapped for japan 100ron fuel. The best fuel local to me is 97ron, would running that chip here cause det/problems,if so could it have already damaged the engine, or on its way to damaging the engine; is best to throw it away and get standard Ecu?

Its a pretty good indication that its been apart but you will never know what was replaced during rebuild.
8 is extremly high and few ever see it, and yes mainly in Japan.
Damage is only, realisticly only going to happen on high revs on boost, so depends how its been driven, or get it changed quickly and use a booster till it done.
Like most things, you cant look at it and ever know, you just have to take a educated guess. Good luck.

To be honest you have to think how long your going to keep it.... the 1 I bought did have an engine rebuild but no receipt to confirm it, but the car used to belong to pip at WGT who confirmed he rebuilt the engine about 1 year ago which was good enough for me :) although we thought if we did say 10k miles in the car the decided to sell it how do we prove it was rebuilt say 20k miles ago? there no proof, Id probably advise to get proof of a rebuild so its easier to sell when that time comes for you... its the difference between 2-3k on the asking price of the motor IMO.

Hope thats of some help

8 bar or therebouts in all chambers shows a very good engine. However, what if the water seals give in? I have a few RX7\'s for sale at the moment. Some are being sold with full rebuilds and choice of porting the engine is also offered.  :evillaugh
