Hi Guys,

Been messing around with the rex all day today and have discovered a rather unusual problem. Whilst i was jacking the car up at the front to remove my front bumper i noticed a slight drip of coolant, so i thought i would check all the reservoirs for level checks and they are all completely dry!!!

I have spent a while tryin to figure out where it is coming from and i can narrow it down to what looks like a hole on the underside of the housing of this pulley in the picture attached. (not sure if it is a small bolt hole or not?)

I am definately fearing the worst at this point so if anyone could help! :xconfused

Many Thanks

thats the water pump pullley mate

It\'s probably leaking from the weep hole in the water pump. It will mean the bearing is on the way out and the pump will need replacing.

thanks

so im guessing there should definately be ahole underneath then?

when you apply pressure on any of the hoses it just seems to come out of there.

Is it an expensive thing to replace? or can it be done yourself? i suppose probably quick tricky as it involves removing belts.

there is a gasket behind it, yours look like some kind of paste has been used possibly instead?

Grizzly

Take the pulley off and have a look for water marks around the weep holes and gasket area. Be carfull running it if its loosing water, overheating does not do the Engine much good at all.

Brett

Better to spend £100 now on a new pump and gasket than £4000 next week on an engine rebuild! Just ask the previous owner of my car......

Well i have spoken to god ( pip at wgt) and he has confirmed that it is 99% sure the water pump has gone. I have been hacking away at the motor and not to sure how to attack gettin the belts off. The alternator one was fine but been playing with the other i adjuster(i assume) and nothing is happening?

Here is a pic of what i mean.
Can anyone help

Thanks
Nick

I know this may be a dumb thing to say but have you undone the lock nut in the center of the tentioner Pulley? It wont move on the Adjuster alone. If that fails take the Lock nut off completly from the Tentioner and remove the pulley, there will be alot of slack then and the belt should come off easy.

Cheers
guys

Yeah i did have it undone but tried it again and it seemed to adjust so god knows!   Water Pump was actually quite an easy job to do yourself. was pretty surprised.

might tackle the inlet manifold gasket next but heard that is a bit more of a challenge! any tips? (get a pro to do it!- ha ha)

Thanks
Nick

Yeh dont drop anything down the inlet!! stick rags in ther runners!!

Be careful when tryin to undo stubborn nuts and bolts so you dont snap the heads(use lots of wd40 and soak it for ten mins) and dont overtighten the ones on the water pump as the housing is aluminium.

other then that just lay everything in an order on the floor that you took it out so it all goes back in right!

I think i may be getting confused with Turbo 2\'s but did find there was bolts and Nuts holding the pump in place?

I know T2\'s waterpump housing is also held by three studs that go through the Pump housing and Pump they oviously have nuts on. So when removing the pump try not to disturb the Water pump housing Gasket.

My memory is not what it once was and i have not done an Fd for a bit so i though i\'d bring it up anyway even though i think its a T2 thing..
