Hi - the Rex has broken down big style and I\'m sure it is rebuild time - major coolant/pressure issues etc. (It\'s a bit odd as I had a compression test done about 6 months ago and it was very good?!).

What mods should I be looking at whilst the car is being rebuilt?

I read that this is the ideal time for a port & polish, but is there anything else that I should be looking into either a) to get more power or b) to make it more reliable (the latter being more important as it\'s my daily driver)?

At present I have:

- 5\' Blitz Nur Spec R DECAT exhaust
- Apexi twin induction kit
- Standard ECU
- Uprated suspension & other bits and bobs (nothing else mechanical)

I\'d love to get it faster, but reliability is a must.

Any help/advise would be greatly received!

!st things 1st, what makes you think you need a rebuild? Best advice is to get it to a rotary specialist and get it checked over [if you need a rebuild it will there anyway]
Lots of things you can do to make them a] more reliable and b] more powerfull all dependant on how deep your pockets are.

For reliability I would upgrade your ecu, improve cooling [better rad] do the hose job on the turbos. For power I would look into porting, upgrading your exhaust, sort out your fueling and then look at making it stop better, oh and a decent clutch might help.

ro284

How long have you been running Cat free with apexi intake and standard ECU mate?

John Yorke - cheers for the advice. I have spoken with Pip & Dave @ WGT and a rebuild is looking likely from the symptoms I gave them. It is booked to go there tomorrow for an assesment, so fingers crossed. To be honest, I hope it\'s a rebuild as it\'s done 43k mikes and I have a pretty major fault every 4/5 months, with one thing and another - some of it from bad workmanship at a local \'Rotary Expert\', before I found WGT (no guesses who that is. NB-I\'m Midlands based!). I\'m hoping that a rebuild will solve a lot of the issues. Cheers for your input - I had not considered radiator etc - will speak to WGT tomorrow. Gonna need some deep pockets, me thinks!!

Ro284 - been running like it is now since I got it - about 2 years ago and 6k miles. Not sure how long before that it was all installed, but I think it was a while as the air intakes were not overly clean.

PS - I had even thought about selling the REX and getting a V8 2005 Mustang GT. Deep down I\'m hoping that I solve the problems - although the Mustang is a rarity in this country, it\'s got nothing on the looks of the RX.

Awe man you dont want to be doing that, those yank tanks are fine for some muscle but they dont do corners :D  You are in good hands with WGT I\'m sure they will sort it.

Apart from the pos re-build look at keeping her cool and make sure she can stop if you are looking at more power, no point in having a zillion BHP if it runs hot and cant stop :bandit
