Had the TII mot done to day and failled very bad on
emissions:
H.C. Level Very high
C.O. Level very high
Passed on everything else so what do I do now?
I thought we had some kind of minor exemption?
The car has no cats and no airpump and is a 91FC
Can I \'tweek\' something to lean it out for the mot and put
it back after?
Any advice please
Thanks Paul..

only pre \'87 get a break on the emmissions.

Thought that was the case, try to argue with the tester a bit
he said the same. Cats off are ok though as its pre 92
I think that bits right.
I think if i got me old cats back on it would be still be way over
and prob. clog them up
Levels at 8% I think 2% is the allowance but not sure.
need a fix for this very quick.
Thanks Paul..

you can remove the cats on a pre July(?) \'92 car but it still needs to pass the test (well duh)

I would guess its the lack of Cats and air pump thats the cause of the high emissions at idle.

What mods do you have on the car ? if you have an ECU that can be tuned maybee you can take some fuel out of the idle maps and raise the rev\'s slightly. You might want to make the MOT station re-zero the machine before they do the test too.

Not sure if it would help but my dad said the only way most RX\'s  would pass an MOT is to take them out for a hard drive and test them while they are still red hot !!

appart from that I\'m not sure as I\'m not clued up on FI , turbo\'s and Catalysts

Sounds like a sensor problem... Assuming you\'ve got the stock ECU, at idle, it\'s supposed to run closed loop using the lambda sensor, so CO will be pretty much spot on - unless something\'s broken. Might be a bit tricky to diagnose if you\'re not up on car electrics though!

The other possibility is an oil leak from the turbo - which probably means smoke will be visible at idle...
