Hi Guys.

I\'m picking up my RX7 next Friday and I would like a suitable alarm/ immobilser (Thatcham cat 2). Are there any prefered manufacturers? Is there anything special about immobilising a rotory engined car?

Any help would be great.

Thanks,

Can you get immobilsers on category 2??

And while on this topic does anybody know any turbo timer friendly alarms, i dont fancy standing around for 2 minutes before i arm it! :)

i think cat 2 is an imob and 1 is alarm imob

nothing special for alarm purpose. it just cut off electric stuff like pump and ign

I had a Meta 99T installed on one of my cars, liked it, well as much as you can like something that does nothing! Car never got stolen, immobilisor never played up. Supose thats all you can hope for.
Was not expensive to buy at all.
I curently have a Cobra immobilisor, again seems fine.
Most security companies offer CAT2 immobilisors so you can really take you\'re pick.
I think it is worth it to pay the extra and get a CAT1. Some insurance companies give lower premiums for a CAT1 but others (Elephant, Bell Direct, Admiral) just give discount on CAT2 as they say the alarm just makes a noise and does not actually prevent the "would be robber" from nicking the car like the CAT2 does.
Hope something in there helps.

Okay... so the difference between Cat1 and Cat2 is that one sounds an audible warning. Thanks.

BTW, Sureterm Direct didn\'t ask me for NCB or Thatcham stuff and still quoted the cheapest (33, SP50, £633 comp), very bizarre policy if you ask me.

Most of the guys in yellow pages seem to do clifford or toad gear. Anyone with these that can vouch for \'em?

Come to think of it, a remote start would be nice too......:)

Just had an alarm fitted to my \'Knightsport\' (FD)
and maybe point to note, central locking fitting up to the high door handles, some places \'may\' find it hard (but not impossible) to do.
Just a bit of forward warning/help?

I have a Clifford Concept 300 on my FD, used since september without any problems at all.
Have the Turbo timer option fitted, fully time adjustable, allows car to be locked and secure with engine running

If you want remote central locking (which you will), the FD only has a motor in the passenger side door , the drivers side lock mechasim is operated by cable, so your installer will need to add a push/pull motor to allow remote operation of the drivers door

If you are near high wycombe PM me and I will give you the guy i use
