Just considering the running costs of one of these lads..... Fuel /spares etc...

The servicing at mazda seems reasonable compare to my GT Four

davegttph1

do a google for WGT motorsport, they give a full breakdown of service costs on their web site, should give you an idea.

petrol wise £60 to fill and I see about 220miles maybe 250. reckons theres more from it if it was on the motorway though

dan4

not too bad on fuel then, my Celica gt four gets 300miles to 60quid on a long run. Youngest member with an rx-7 on here??? i might be the youngest :)

dan4

the main probs i have picked up from ppl is that the stock rad isnt man enough and the brakes need uprating, am i right there lads?

iaint

Stock rad is fine for roaw work if you\'ve not got a lot of mods on the car.  More power = more heat!

You\'ll also find the FD\'s breaks as standard at least as good as the GT4\'s, probably better as the car weighs in at a little less.

For track work you\'d be well of uprating the rad and breaks (adding braided hoses doesn\'t hurt either!).

I\'d say the intercooler was more inadequate than the rad.

this gets my vote, started to see reasonable temps on the water but the ACT is stupidly high in this heat, today Im seeing about 50 average... seen it go up to 60\'s without too much of a right foot. although thats definately time to back off....

think water injection seems the way to go with these babies, bigger IC would do jack mainly for the fact of where its situated, a FMIC will bugger the water temp so it leaves u with little choice....

thats how I see it anyhow, would be more than happy to be corrected though as Im looking for many ways to cool the ACT down

There are a few people running FMIC setups that have no issues with water temps at all - it\'s basically an issue with making sure the I/C flows enough air through to the rad rather than blocking the flow.

Anything that cools the system is important - WI if you\'re seeing high intake temps seems popular at the mo as do charge coolers rather than intercoolers.

High water temps will kill the water seals (or warp things at very high temps), high intake temps increace the risk of detonation, particularly if you\'re running higher than standard boost.  Reducing both is very important.

I have a massive aftermarket rad and in yesterdays heat saw 75oC water temp driving around Derby, although did not get stuck in traffic otherwise will rise.

75degrees!!!! thats well low. Gurj dont you worry about it running a little too cold? from my experience with the renault 5\'s I know that the water can run too cold reducing the temp of the oil which in turn doesnt lubricate to its maximum ability

gsb876

Usually water temp in this weather moves from 75 - 90 oC and the oil temp sits around 70 - 90oC so all is good at the mo.

When you sit in traffic for a while the water temp will hit 90oC but as i was on the move it sat about 75-78oC.

right then some good advice ta. So what brakes are FD\'s running standard as my four stanard has 315mm discs front+rear with 4pot calipers on the front and 2pots on the rear.

The four also had superstrut suspension (2 lower arms,2ball joints, camber links etc...!!!!) Sets you back about 500-600quid a corner just for the arms so i am prepared for costs in an rx-7 but am i expecting a worse bank balance from one?

andyrose

nowt wrong with standard set up mate
read somewhere that the RX7 3rd Gen had the most powerful brakes on a production car (up untill a number of years ago) someone correct me if wrong.
when i stand on mine my eyeballs keep hitting my windscreen.

Yup 3rd gen brakes are amongst the best. If its an old one it may be worth checking the function of all the pistons though.
