Righto, over the last few days, i\'ve noticed a sort of ticking noise coming from the engine direction. You can only really hear it with the windows up, and you can\'t really hear it with the bonnet open. I found out this evening, that the noise disappears when you press the clutch down, to which a colleague suggested that it could be the clutch release bearing?

The car had a new ACT uprated clutch fitted january, but i\'m sure that the bearing was replaced then (if it was in the kit?)? Is there anything else it can be? If not, and you\'re sure it is the clutch release bearing, whats the general price of a replacement and why has it lasted such a short time?

Many Thanks

from what i can remember of fitting clutchs in the likes of cortinas and escorts, you usually dont get the release bearing as part of the kit, just the clutch and pressure plate, i doubt things have changed much over the years.

If the noise dissapears when you dip the clutch then your diagnosis is probably correct, but having never seen a FD clutch set up ( which i believe is a push type as opposed to a pull) and not actually hearing it i cant say %100 if your correct.

Hi Dan,

As has already been said it souds like the release bearing.

BTW, I think you will find that you don\'t get a new release bearing with an  ACT , just a pressure plate and a center plate.

Sonuds about right. Mine was knackered after rotorstock. Got gary to do it
G and A Racing developments. No fuss and not expensive. If it goes it could be very dear.

For the record, the FD clutch is a pull type clutch.

If the garage is worth their salt, they would have replaced the bearing. I mean, you\'re spending around 500 quid plus labour - you\'d be crazy not to spend 50 quid on a bearing.

Best you give them a call to check that they replaced the bearing - although I\'m sure it\'s not unheard of for it to fail prematurely if its faulty...

Dan,

Personally I wouldn\'t worry to much about it if you are not flush, the CRB on my FD has been moaning for a little while now, its quite common on FDs.

It does need replacing at somepoint but will probably last 1,000s of miles.

Well, its been in for an MOT pre-test this morning and they looked at it then. They said that they didn\'t replace the bearing last time, but that i\'m looking at £150 to do that, and to fit a new flywheel at the same time, so its not all bad. I have to price up the part though first.

^ just get an ADL Blueprint part, it will more than do the job :)
