A little ps,
One of the rival engine builders are struggling to attain 1000 hp reliably from a 20b. So the 800 hp is put into perspective.

Carl, sorry that probably didn’t come out the way I meant it. I am not questioning your abilities, but you have to admit that compared to Aus and a little to the US, that we have two/three people/companies that can build rotary’s.

I had an e-mail the other day asking what my plans are, what I am having done and who is doing it for me. I gave them a run down of what you had already advised me on, and what you are doing for me. Which I am happy with.

But as I said people over here in the UK are limited by choice, and need a little guidance as to where to go. This person is looking at going to Aus for his engine, the one advantage is that they will be able to bench map/dyno the engine before shipping. This is something that I understand is in hand and should not be that far away here in the UK.

Dan

PS. Dont give away your race secrets. They might get a little harder looked at after the next race. ;)

Carl

Will this person get all the same ancilliries on this engine when it arrives and is installed, what sort of guaratee will he have if the engine goes wrong,it is a long way to ship and expensive, who will pay?
Also an engine dyno figure is not the smae as one in the car in that conditions are optimal but in a car the coaditions are very changeable,eg you only need fuel starvation and bang, engine gone.who will pay?
Not being funny but it is a long way for an engine, what is the said person looking for to use it and what hp?

Carl, I am not sure is that person is a member or not, if not I am sure that they will join. I have pointed them in the direction of this thread, as there is a host of good information on here.

Hi there Carl, I thought that Hurley claimed thier seals were used in Abel Ibarra\'s cars...

How about the problems aaccosiated with getting the apex seal slot parallel to each other and to the trochoid surface..a big probelm in the USA at least, and if Norton rotary engineering is anything to go by, likely a big issue in the UK too..

Sorry I have not sorted out hose FF&R mags for you yet, will try to v soon

Hi Case,
Maybe they used to in the past but Abel is using them now from what Francesco has told me.
Re the mags,no hurry, all I need to know is total cost and where to send the money.
As to the apex seal slots the hardest part is to get the corner seals to line up with the apex seal,The slot has to be machined with .5mm from each side quite accurately and still be vertical but it can be done and is being done regularly here.If it is done badly the corner seal binds either in or out and engine doesn\'t work well.
Kind regards
Carl

Couple of pages on Abel\'s car in FF&R or Zoom drag special this month; states motor as 20B, twin GT35\'s(not sure about that bit, special spec I guess!), ianetti seals, MoTeC \'puta...

On the comment on tuners, it should be borne in mind that, to tune a high power, especially turbo engine so that you get, power, reliability and drivability takes time. If I were providing the service I would be very surprised if I could do it for less than £400. Ideally you would bed the engine in on an engine dyno before installation into the vehicle, so add another £300 for that, plus petrol.

If this sounds a lot, you have to remember that you are getting into the territory where a \'one size fits all\' tuning strategy just doesn\'t work. Anyone who says that a map off the database will be fine is lying or is very happy with a sub-optimal mapping strategy.

Anway, back to the lab for some evil cackling

Bill, I think your prices for the bench dyno are a little cheap. All the bench dyno\'s that I have spoken with charge around 300-700 per day, with it taking a day for running in and base mapping and another 1 to 2 days for boost mapping it soon adds up.

Your absolutely right about the \'ones size its all\' maps. So many people on the Apexi forum are forever asking for \'a map to suit my mods\'.

Can\'t be done! Every car is different!
