Hi

I have just had a huge expense at Rotechnics ( £650 )  This morning the speedometer stoped working while all dashboard is fine.  Another potential bill...

96 RBBathurst ( import )

Can any one suggest any solution ?

What was done at Rotechnics? Any gearbox related work? You could check the connections behind the speedo, but it\'s unlikely anything will be up there, and it can be a pain in the butt to remove! (Just awkward, not difficult)

Hi

Thanks for the replay. I had a vacum pack changed at Rotechnics but the speedo has been fine untill now.  Could it be a fuse ?

I wonder what happens if I get a speeding ticket while the speedo is out of action.

I bet the unit costs a bomb.  Nothing is cheap on a rex as we know.

Not necassarily - I got a UK spec speedo when mine was sticking from RX motors. In fact, my old sticking one is hanging around at home. For a few quid in postage, i could let you have my old one. It\'s not a great deal of use to me, and is just hanging around in the kitchen.

Alternatively, yes, its possible it may be a fuse. But i\'m not sure if there is a single fuse for the speedo.

Here\'s a piccy of the fuse box, and it doesn\'t look like there\'s a fuse for the speedo. But it might be worth checking them anyway.

Hi

Thanks for the info:  I had a look at my fuse box and I also do not see a fuse for the spedo.

Does the one you have work ? My dashboard lights are redish but I think it is only the cover.  Benath it all should be the same.

I don\'t know wheter to go to a local mechanic or drive to Rotechnics ( I am in North London )

Well, my speedo works, but was sticking - but as i said, you can have it to use to identify whether it is the speedo or something else. For example, if you install my speedo, and it still doesn\'t work, then you know that the problem is not the speedo. However, if you install mine and it does work, then you know you the problem was the speedo - you\'ll need a replacement, as like i said mine sticks. But as a diagnostic tool, it\'ll work.

If you send me the postage for it, i can send it off to you. For a few quid, you can hardly grumble! Better than Rotechnics charging you to do the same thing!

There isnt a seperate fuse for the speedo.Rev counters and speedo\'s are common faults on FD\'s,they either stop working or read when they feel like it.Just changed both on a customers car, worked fine with stock ecu, fitted Apexi and they would not work properly, changed them out and all is fine.

Hi

Thanks for all your help.  I am going locally Tomorrow morning to have my speedo checked.  They think it may be just a wire.  There is no point in me getting the speedo from you as I would not know where to start to replace one.  Thanks any way.
I rung Jimmies RX7 and ask for one (just in case) but it was ...... expensive.
I am going to post a thread asking members for one.  Maybe some one has it a lot cheaper.

PC Let you know what happens
