Right first things first!!!

I\'m currently working offshore at the moment and have recently seen a 1994 rx7 R2 which has just been imported, now has mot and tax, and also completly standard for £4750 with 41000miles on the clock!
The garage are kind enough to keep it for me, but the thing is that everone that i work with say that they have problems after problems after problems! Plus they have to be maintaind at a high level! (which dosnt bother me) and also the engine will need a re build at 41000miles!
Ive read on here some of the problems i can get but they seem quite easy to fix and are quite easy to do my self!!!

Can anyone Spread light on the situation?     :3Confused

many thanks to all who reply

I take it this is your first Rotary. Well, they are not just an engine, but a way of life. :InLove  If you get one in good nick, treat it well, and don\'t mind getting your hands dirty every once in a while, you\'ll get miles of happy motoring out of it.:Laugh

You buy one that has been looked after, regularly serviced etc and has had the rebuild (by a reputable company) and it is unlikely to be less reliable than any other Jap performance car.

I believe this bad reputation the RX7 has is caused by the bad experiences people have with the cheap ones out there, the ones not looked after and thrown onto Autotrader because they are having problems.  These problems are then passed on to person after person each time slatting these problematic cars.

Bottom line - you get what you pay for.  If the car is £4k then there is a reason for it.  Decent FD\'s go for £7k + on here.  If a seller is selling at £4k there must be a reason.

If I was you I wouldnt commit to anything until you had seen the car and got a good idea of its history.  Go to see some of the cars for sale by members on MRC, cars that have been looked after and regularly serviced.  Armed with this knowledge and experience of a \'good\' RX7 you would be much better prepared to go out there and buy yourself one with confidence.

Oh, get yourself a good one and don\'t expect to ever want to sell.  IMHO they are the best Jap motor out there and to try to get the same driving experience elsewhere you would have to spend £30k+

"not been abused" and "Bee R rev limiter" are two things you dont see in an ad very often.  Some people believe these can seriously damage turbos and engines.

Also it looks like an early R1 model?, 40k seems rather low considering what the driver\'s seat looks like.

I\'d be wary
no clue at all.

the picture of the seats are ok because i got him to send some more pictures and the drivers seat looks fine!!
The milage is 66000k So that works out to be about 41000miles!

i asked the guy about the rev limiter and it isnt on car!!

I can feel your heart is pounding to buy this FD .............. I remember it well when I was buying mine .......... exciting isn\'t it.

I remember going to pick it up ....... there it was gleaming ......... I thought crikey that is a beautiful beast ........... never regretted it ....... I have had 4 years of big smile driving with the occassional heart racing moment.

Surely there is an FD from a known member you can buy otherwise I guess you have to look at worst case scenario with potential re-build costs.

Mind you I bought mine with about that mileage on it and it kept going till about 75k miles and I tracked it alot.

Ah the first flush of lusting after a car, the one you are looking at will have no or little history, the engines are the weakest point, if it has not been looked after and you most likey wont know that till you have parted with your money, you would be paying a premium to an unknown [to MRC]garage who will most likely sell you a worthless warranty.
I would be taking other peoples advice have a look at whats for sale from members, seeing where you are the nearest REX specialist is around Manchester way dont be fooled by the body work the money gets spent under the bonnet, up your budget and buy a well sorted car that has had all the problems sorted out in the UK. HTH
A Garage selling a fresh import for that money has layed out very little, you will get better value from a trusted member.
