I need some help.  There are 3 filler caps in the FD engine for coolent. 1 in the center of the bay, then a second to the right (a sort of small tank) and the 3ed down by the left head light.

The 1st 2 are the high pressure cap ones, and the 3ed is a plastic bottle that says \'radiator coolent only\' on it.

I need to know if there are ment to be 1 or 2 pipes comming from the plastic bottle, as I only seem to have the 1, and when the bottle is full, the water just overflows and goes on the floor.

The reason I ask is that Im waitin for a rebuild as the water seals have gone in the engine and I have to fill up the radiator every morrning, but if I travel alot and run the water down, I have to wait till the temp has cooled enough to open the rad. and fill it up again.

Any help would be good.

You need to top it up in no1 on your pic, AND BURP THE BOTTOM RAD HOSE! but every time you run it, you risk it getting too hot and will distort something, like i did, my post ( MY TYPE X pics) shows where my water seal had corroded away! the sooner you can stop using it the cheaper the rebuild could be.good luck Bob

I fill up no.1 every mornin, but I still need to know about no.3

Ignore the 3rd or rather the plastic bottle - it\'s the \'overflow\'.  As the car warms up some excess is pumped into this \'resevoir\', as the car cools down it\'s sucked back in - all via the AST tank (the one nearest the battery).

If you\'re waterseals have gone, then the pressurised system will contantly pump water into the resevoir, when you stop running the water in the engine gets even hotter, expands more causing a massive overflow onto the ground.  Anyway, there\'s not much you can do until it\'s been rebuilt - I know, it happened to me when my seals went...
