Hi everyone, hopefully im going to be a owner of a 1985 RX-7, it seems to be a good one without much rust on it and it had a black interior which looks very nice. never had a rotary engine before, very interesting how it works compared to a normal piston engine. ive always had Nissans so this is not my strong point at the moment but i do learn quick, In theory doing a rebuild on a rotary engine is not as involved as doing a rebuild on a cylinder engine, i take it on a rotary the common problem that calls for a rebuild is the rotor tips wearing down, like the piston rings on a cylinder engine. i take it these can be bought a specific sizes and installed in the rotor to eliminate the problem?

ive done a little bit of research about this car, i believe it has a 12A engine but its advertised as a 1.3? i thouht 12A\'s worked out to be 2.3 and the 13B\'s worked out to be 2.6, maybe he has it wrong.

what sort of suspention setup has it got on the rear end and in general is there any kind of upgrades people do to the suspention, ie. coilover on the front, are lowering spring avaliable fairly easily?

ive never been out in one myself but my mate has at a drift day and he said it was really good, he liked the rev buzzer

out of interest, what is the average price of these cars and on the average how many MPG do they get, ive heard that the really late RX-7\'s are really bad but these are that bad

cheers

Weeelllll...mpg?  About 25 , less if you boot it.

5 link live axel, disks all round, no power steering.

Handles really well but complete engine re-builds are not that cheap.  Think £1000+ for a new lump.

Nothing else looks as cool tho at any price.  Quick too, a classic no doubt about it.

You should hear 1 with a decent pipe - Magic!!!

1st thing to do is junk the standard carb & exhaust.
RX motors will build the BEST pipe for not much £.

Parts are cheap & plentifull and the guys on this site can solve any technical queries you might have (in my experience).

Rotary ownership is like no other bug ive ever been bitten by.  You\'ll find they have a fannatical following of eccentric crazies.

Soon you\'ll be: one of us, one of us, one of us, one of us,one of us, one of us, one of us, one of us, one of us, one of us, one of us, one of us,one of us, one of us, one of us, one of us.......

Ooo forgot to mention, if you find the standard 115bhp too tame, I have for sale a complete Elford turbo kit which has just come off my \'85 RX7.

160bhp as standard, but my kit has a BRAND NEW larger turbo, capable of much higher boost.  The chap I bought the kit from reckons he got nearer 200bhp.

Anyway, its up for grabs and its mint, all new braided hoses etc.

Really made the car fly, wouln\'t want a none turbo\'d 1 now!

5 link rear axel is really good, ive been down the scrapyard today and they had a couple in there, one complete one and one thats been stripped quite a bit, coilovers on the front are a definate option as kits can be had for a few £££ pounds uprated springs one the back with adjustable shocks would set it up really nice, the differential on the back looks quite small though in comparison to other units ive had, had a look at a elson turbo and that didnt have a lsd:mad: . there was a few series 2\'s up there aswell i should have had a look to compare diffs:rolleyes:

even if i dont get this one off e-bay im definatly going to get one(i will get it though:p ), im sure it wont be that slow but ive had turbo\'s all my life and theres not many cheap other ways to go for high performance. PM me about the ETL kit don, its going to brake the bank getting the 7 but its definatly got to be done.

cheers
